Can someone explain how that was a save for Acosta? Didn't the same thing happen about a week ago and he didn't get a save? It was against the Mets - Ring came in pitched and got the first batter out. Acosta came in and got the final out. Score was 6-3.

I don't know how to explain that one but on that day against the Mets, the score was Braves 6 Mets 3 and know one got the save.  Don't know how to explain it.

to get a save you have to come into the game after the 5th inning. your team must be in the lead by no more than 3 runs. your team cannot surrender the lead including ties at anypoint. so yeah you can get a save even if you come in the game with an 0-2 count on the last batter. all you have to do is get the last man out without giving up the lead

A save is given if a pitcher comes into the game and will face a batter who potentially could be the tying run. A pitcher can get a save and only throw one pitch and his team is up by no more than 3 runs but only if there are two runners on.

According to the boxscore on the Braves' website, Manny Acosta did not get a save in the 5-2 win over the Padres Wednesday night.

my bad left out the part that if you come in in the final inning the potential tying run has to be on base. thats why they changed it there wasnt anyone on base

Yeah, there has to be a runner in scoring postion is what I thought it was. Sometimes the team can have a lead by 4-5 runs and have bases loaded then a pitcher come in and get a save from that.

The official scorer messed up and awarded him a save.  MLB took it away.

Qpappa is right. Again though the pitcher must face the potential tying run, so if the team is up by 5 runs and the bases loaded, he must get atleast two outs.

The tying run does not have to be on base - let alone in scoring position.

The pitcher has to
