That was a great comment by Sergio!  Glad to see him in the winner's circle again.  Maybe this will help catapult him back into the mix, consistently.  Poor Goydos.  Playing with the lead all day and giving a couple back late.  I don't think he choked though, just bad timing... well, the splash in the playoff, wind gust...maybe, tightening noose...maybe, too.

Did anyone see Roarin' ScabbiWeinie's tee shot on 17 today?  GORGEOUS ... stopped about 6 feet from the hole.  I bet iLoatheLife had a spontaneous orgasm right there on the spot!

BTW ... looking forward to ILG's LOG from today's excusrion.

BG,  Too funny on the 7:42 post!!!!  LOL

Man did you nail it before when you wrote:

"The 17th?  This is where the 17th is deserving of some serious criticism.  A perfect shot by the leader catching an unfortunate GUST could douse his nut.  LUCK ... PURE LUCK could determine the Winner ... and THAT ain't the way it should be.  Exciting?  You betcha.  Fair?  Nope.  Good shots should be rewarded, NOT penalized by LadyLuck."

Why did I bother to watch at all?  You all ready told me what way going to happen!  Great job by Sergio, including his putting.  Could this be a turning point?

Sergio putted well today.  Although he was last in putting, he didn't putt that badly.  That can be a deceiving stat.  He was first in GIR this week, so he had to putt alot.  He wasn't on the fringe or off the green to chip close and pick up a 1-putt on his tally.  He did miss a couple of shorties, but made some big putts today, especially on the back 9.  He stayed close and shot -2 coming in.  He outplayed everyone and came out on top.  I think it's that simple.  Goydos played very well, but had plenty of gifts.  The pitch/slash out of the rough on 10 was one of those.  I know these guys practice alot, but the shot Goydos made had to be 1 in 50, if not more, for the pros.  I enjoyed watching him play, but am happy to see that Sergio can still win.  Let's see if he can follow that up with a couple of more this year.  Then we will know he is back and could step up to the plate to take a swing at Tiger.  It's only one win in the last 30 months, so there is a long, long way to go yet....

UMhula...  I agree ... Sergio putted pretty well ... especially today.

Where he was missing was 15 feet and beyond ... and he had a LOT of those due to the fact, as UMHula points out, that he hit so many of his GIR.  Nevertheless, his stroke was sound, and he rarely missed by much.  That's VERY encouraging for his future prospects.

As commentators pointed out, Sergio used to be a GREAT putter (in 2000-2001?) ... and he had just returned to that old putter this week.  IF he can stay confident with that putter and stroke, a few 15 footers will start dropping (like today) ... and he'll be back in The Game.  It would be GREAT to see.  If he were Tiger's size, he'd be a force to be reckoned with.  The kid has something worth watching.

Sergio used to be a GREAT putter (in 2000-2001?) ... I think I heard, 4th in putting in 2001 and over the last seven seasons he is avg. 134th in putting.  Haven't heard too much about sports psychologists recently.  Was sorta trendy not too long ago.  Putting discrepencies that wide gotta have something to do with the wiring...

Sergio was hot on the heels of The Beast at the time (2001).  He had some Furyk-esk loops in his swing due to his Dad's tutelege, and went through some radical swing changes afterward.  That resulted in a HUGE amount of THINKING prior to his swing ... and the endless "waggle" period that he went through.

I THINK that his efforts to re-define his swing, and then rid himself of the endless waggle, caused him to neglect his putting.  But MAN ... his SWING is a thang of beaOOty now!  TREMENDOUS control for a short guy hitting so long!  IF he can keep his swing together AND re-find his putting ... he'll be a PH*K of a lot of fun to watch.

... as long as he doesn't lob another greenie in the cup, I'm willing to cut Sergio some slack.

No one has matched Sergio's intensity other than Tiger.  We NEED Sergio in Top Form.  Anthony Kim shows similar promise, but he's got some growing pains to go through yet.  Adam Scott ... as talented as he is ... just doesn't have the Spirit of Tiger, Sergio, or Kim.  Those are rare beasts.  Unfortunately, they are also the type of beast to known gnaw off their own foot from time to time.

I see TWO possible serious contenders to the Throne on the immediate horizon ... Sergio and Kim.  Kim SEEMS to be even better than Sergio at the same age ... but his EGO needs to step aside just a bit.  IF he can mature gracefully, he could be a GREAT golfer ... but it's early yet.

Both Kim and Sergio have the heart and talent ... and maybe even the grey-matter ... but they are driving compact cars while Tiger is driving a Hummer.

Hummer?

TIGER SUCKS!!!

Where is iLoathLife's TavelLog?

The clean-up crew must still be scraping-up and bagging her protoplasm after she melted when Sabbatini hit the green today.

Looking forward to ANYTHING (I think) that you are willing to share, ILG.

BG,  I posted  on  The Players Championship thread about today.  I  had to wait until we  stopped for the night.  I'm on my way home.  I had a great time, wish you had been there!!

Sabbatini ball was stopped by the WIND.  The wind was blowing GALE force.  I had to hold on to the rail to keep from being blown away!!!

I wouldn't have dared ask anyone except Serigo, for an autograph, after the beating they  all took  from the course and wind, that would have not been the thing to do.  I do have a little respect for players!!

UMHula...  Looks like DirtBag Goydos agrees with us about Sergio's supposedly poor putting.  When DirtBag was asked about Sergio's poor putting stats, he had the following to say:

"I think we need to understand, his putting, he hits the ball so good we talked about the second round where he hit 16 (actually 14) greens. By virtue of being such a good ball striker, he's going to have a lot more 20 and 30 footers, and therefore it's not going to look like he's putting as well as a guy who is hitting eight greens and chipping it to five feet and making them," Goydos said.

"So when you say that he ... struggles with his putting, you need to put it in the context with the rest of his game, and the rest of his game is pretty good; so therefore, he has less opportunities, per se, to make putts."

Hmmmm ... where did we hear that before?
