Tim Beckham, a high school baseball player that plays for a Griffin County High School has been picked as the #1 prospect out of high school players around the Country. Tim is hitting .500 with five homers, 31 RBIs and could very well be the #1 pick in the first-year player draft next month.
I tell ya, Georgia is becoming quite the breeding ground for good baseball players. I'd love for us to get him but I'm sure he'll be long gone by the time it is the Braves' turn to pick.
It's great to hear that our Georgia boys are doing so well. One wishes him luck and hopes to see him make it in the bigs

Bravochick,
I always have thought that georgia has produced some of the best quality players for baseball, only behind FLA and Tex becuase of sheer size. Its amazing that one of the smallest states can consistently produce major league quality players. Just look at Danny Hall and Georgia Tech and see how many players come from there. Lets hope this guy succeeds as well.

No worries, rmbln. I'm a history and georgraphy buff.
And indeed we shall boycott every sports writer and caster that has a vote in the MVP voting process should chipper not win the nl mvp
Kinda sucks we don't have a pick int he first round.. I wonder who the Braves are scouting though for their first initial pick. Hope its a good one. Would love to see them draft a highly touted pitcher.

While the topic is brought up, let me point out the reason we don't have a pick in this years first round is because the Mets have it along with a sandwich pick between the first and 2nd rounds for losing Tom Glavine via free agency.
While this seems bad, remember that next year we may have 3 picks - ours, the teams who picks up Teixeira, and a sandwich pick. This is one of the things that people don't think about when they say - trade him now so we can get some value . . . etc. If we trade him we lose 2 first round picks during this draft, and there will be some very good players selected in the first round of this years and next years drafts. So if we do indeed trade him somehow (I don't really think it is possible) we not only lose Tex, we lose 2 first round picks in the first year player draft. The trade better have very high value!
Go Braves '08!!!

Good analysis red. That is one thing alot of people forget, but I think if the Braves were to trade Tex they would get high value for him just because of his age and his potential alone.

What's crazy is that the top two shortstops taken in next month's draft will probably both be named Beckham and come from Georgia.
Of course, there's Tim.
But don't forget Gordon, the SS for my Georgia Bulldogs. Probably the best pro prospect to come through UGA in a long, long time. Right now he's a projected top 15, maybe top 10 pick.

Unbelievable as it may seem GA has produced another good player. I think we're all forgetting someone here (from a few years ago) that we were all amazed by... Jeff Francour. Straight out of GA football and baseball he made the bigs. Anyway back on this topic the Braves might end up trying to make a deal for one of these kids. They might consider trading a couple of later draft picks for a first rounder. Congrats though to those kids

Won't the first pick be that guy from FSU? He got some face time on ESPN recently for playing all 9 positions in a 7 inning game striking out a couple of batters and hitting a grand slam...Can't remember his name right now but I heard the Rays want to draft him.

Hate to burst your bubble, but mlb teams can't trade draft picks. I think it's a stupid policy and only kills interest in the draft. I wish what you said could happen, but it's not going to.

No, dawgfan. I was hoping we would, but there's one catch with the whole thing.
In order to receive compensation, you have to offer arbitration. Most big free agents won't accept arbitration. If Teixeira has a strong season and hits the free agent market, Atlanta will offer him arbitration. However, last year, with Andruw's terri | |
