you know the fact that you Pats fans defend your team is ok. The facts are cheating by taping defensive signals is a major infraction, the charge against the Pats that cost them the fines and the draft pick was for this, not IMPROPER CAMERA PLACEMENT as you like to call it. Pats fans would be better off just admitting your team cheated for at least 7 years, then what anyone has to say is mute. The fact is they had an unfair advantage, and yes knowing the signals of a team is an advantage. In this day and age the taping could be decifered in less than 4 minutes. Consider this, it takes on the average about 4 seconds to send a defensive signal, 4 seconds at lets say 30 plays is 120 seconds of taping to get those signals, thats just 2 minutes of viewing time to get the defensive signals a team used in the first half of a game. That coupled with a man in the booth with binoc's seeing the signals being sent in and a helmet with a head set in it on the QB where all they have to do is call the right play and it works. Yeah thats a huge advantage. Now consider this, when the penalty was handed down Goodell said the Pats had in place the means to decifer and utilize the information given to them (paraphrased) and that the information was used in games, all this is what Belacheck admitted to. He openly admitted he was cheating, had he denied it the penalty handed down would have been extremely severe. Lets remember how many times the Pats came from behind in the second half of games to win, they did it alot. Now with the info we have about the cheating it sort of explaines why they were sooo good in the second half of games. Its very easy to beat someone when you know what they are doing. That in itself taints anything the pats have done in that 7 year period. Now lets play a little game here and see how ya feel about it then. Lets say the Pats from 2000 to 2007 had been playing second fiddle to hummmm lets say maybe the Jets and that the Jets had won like 3 SB's in that time frame, and poof in the 2007 season you find out that the Jets had been taping defensive signals and had been using the info gained by doing so in games, even games against your beloved Pats, games that kept your team from going to the SB. Think about it, how would you feel? Probably like all the other fans of all the other teams in the NFL that are saying things you don't wanna hear now. Personally I think this has all stretched out for soo long that IF there was a tape of the walk through of the Rams then Kraft or Belecheck could have allready bought it back and destroyed it, lord knows they have the money. So what is missing might not be all there was at any point and time. Did you appen to notice the nice new Lotus Walsh was getting into when the reporters were hounding him? I am sure he gets paid soooo good doing the things he does to spend 300,000 on a nice new car.
Things that make you go HUMMMMMMMMM.

I know all you non Pats fans are trying to find something to grab on to but please use your minds and be realistic. It is too easy to say they cheated. They broke a rule about where they were videotaping. It is not illegal to videotape the opponents signals, it just must be done from certain locations, the sideline is not one of them. The video can not be used in the game and nobody has produced any evidence that they used it in the games that they were taping. It just takes too long to produce and analyze the signals to be useful in the game that is going on. They were fined for the camera location and ignoring the Commissioner's memo a few days earlier.
Memo to all non Pats fans, your team probably has tapes also. Jimmy Johnson admitted that he taped when he was the Cowboy's coach. I don't think he is the only one. Also, don't teams change signals after each quarter? And offensive signals...don't the plays come in over the league controlled radios?
It may sound sexy and make a good headline but if you think about it, there is not much here, even if you hate and or are sick of the Pats and their dominance in the 2000's.
So keep hating the Pats but just admit that you are jealous of their success. We'll keep enjoying the winning football...and baseball...and basketball here in Winnerville. (NCAA hockey also)

incorrect patsfan, it is illegal to steal any signals or even to be taping any of the coaching staff or benches. All that is legal to tape is the game itself, you are not to be taping any sideline activity. That has been a rule since the early 1960's. In fact the rule actually makes it illegal to signs at all, using any method.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has determined that the New England Patriots violated league rules Sunday when they videotaped defensive signals by the New York Jets' coaches, according to league sources.
No where in the articles about spygate does it say the rule they violated was about where they were taping from. It definitely says they violated league rules by taping defensive signals.

<blockquote>
The "Game Operations Manual" states that "no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." The manual states that "all video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead." NFL security officials confiscated a camera and videotape from a New England video assistant on the Patriots' sideline when it was suspected he was recording the Jets' defensive signals. Taping any signals is prohibited. The toughest part usually is finding evidence to support an allegation.
PLEASE NOTE: Taping any signals is prohibited.

Very funny to think that the NFL sent a warning to every team, because every team was doing it. The Pats pushed it after the warning and got docked. Howie Long stated that every team did it. He is no Patriot lover. Maybe the Pats just didn't do it as good as others and got busted. Conspiracy theory on the Ram tape? This guy was a Jose Canseco, only with no proof and no truth. Let him and the cheating talk die. Pats lost 2 of the supposed 5 films he had. We all know they didn't lose often during that period, yet lost 40% of the "Cheating" games?

Velochi,
Funny thats never the way it was ever reported. The NFL sent out the warning because of multiple teams complaining about the Pats doing it. Howie Long never said every team was doing it, he did say every team films the games for further study, note he said games not the sidelines or stealing signals. The same with Jimmy Johnson, he never once said that he was stealing defensive signals. Yet all you Pats fans keep saying that he did. Every coach in the NFL has come out saying that thier team did not practice stealing of signals and yet your sitting there typing just the opposite based on some garbage some other Pats fan has posted someplace else. There were 8 tapes turned over to the NFL by Walsh, so where is this The Pats lost 2 of the supposed 5 films he had? And funny that ESPN reported that the Pats won every one of the games that were on those tapes. The Pats have been proven to have been cheating for 7 years at least, by Bill Belichecks own admission.
Now see its fans like you and so many others that cat ignorant to the facts that give your team a worse name than it allready has. If you and the other morons would just admit, yeah our team cheated for 7 years and was caught doing so, maybe just maybe this whole thing might stop. By sitting there typing garbage like you did all you do is fuel the fire that burns inside the fans of every teams fans in the NFL. Why sit there and try to make veryone mad? All that does is make the whole spygate thing even worse, and could end up leading to more penalties against your team. Angry fans complaining to thier congressmen will surely get this into the hands of the Congress and an investigation will be had. Then your coaches and everyone involved will get to go before congress and have to tell the truth or end up being prosecuted for perjury. Is that what it will take to make you moronis Pats fans to finally say Hey you know our team cheated for 7 years, and i sure wish they did not but it is a fact and there is nothing I can do about it, but I still support my team anyway.

I am not a Pats fan. I am a football fan that is tired of hearing people cry over this. The Pats won these games on the field not in the film room. Football people know it has happened for years, and it is the Patriots that were made the example. No need to name call. A difference of opinion is just fine. I have no idea how you and others keep crying about this and you don't understand how I can be tired of what I think is sour grapes. The games ESPN just reported that Walsh turned in, two against the Dolphins were losses. My team is the Vikings. I don't know who your team is. I love the game and know that the Pats didn't do anything different than other teams. Very similiar to the steriods problem. We close our eyes to some and crucify others.

Velochi,
you said:
"know that the Pats didn't do anything different than other teams"
So you have evidence that the other teams did the same thing??????????
Better get in touch with Goodell dude, to say You KNOW other teams did same thing then lets see the evidence. Evidence by the way is not saying that so and so said it, Evidence is showing proof that the team did it. Oh geez lets use the video tapes the Pats made, that is evidence. Lets see the video tapes of all the teams in the NFL doing it.
The added bonus here is Belicheck even admittted the Pats had a staff that decifered these tapes, a staff that could do it in a matter of minutes. I am quite sure every NFL team has this crack staff of people to decifer the sigals so you know what play is being called.
Its funny you sit there typing that 2 of the games were loses when I am sitting here watching ESPN news and they just said again that all the games on the tapes were wins. I guess ESPN is completely wrong and your correct.
