wow Jagmania 3 straight posts where you didn't sound like a douche..I'm impressed.. Maybe  your not a lost soul...

Thats because I was actually talking to someone who saw flaws in his own team and started evaluating them  with the intention not to bring degrading criticism upon both teams but speak the truth about them. It is what it is.   I never understood why people got so upset about the truth.

duvalbulldog - I'm going to respond to your reply to my post one at a time. Concerning the Black, Teal and Gold, believe it or not, my son plays for the Black and Teal here in Altoona, PA. Go to www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=greenwoodmeadows to see the Greenwood Meadows baseball team in all of thier Black and Teal splendor. At the team picture he is the3rd one in from the left, first row. Check out "teams/rosters" and find the boy with the initials "NP" with the .667 batting average, making the Teal and Black proud! Also he is a poster on sportsline using the ID, "teal4ever20". Moving on.

I never heard of Vic Ketchem, sorry. But if he worked with or interviewed Knoll (the emperor), he's a keeper. You can't beat that kinda experience.

Concerning the Steeler's and Jag's playing each other, I miss playing you guy's twice a year! You boy's are the Steeler's of the south and I say that with the utmost respect. By imitating, copying and fashioning a fledgling football team after the Steeler's, what better compliment could a team ask for. The fact you guys stepped up to the plate so quickly, again a compliment to the Steeler way of playing football, say's it all. I beleive your first ever player (draft or compensatory pick) in 1995 was Tony Boselli. Picking a left tackle, gotta luv it! Coach Del Rio, I remember him playing linebacker at USC, again, like the Steeler's, pick a former player that has the potential to be a great coach.

How long have the Steeler's have been in existence? I believe the year, without looking it up (as a sign of respect to you and as a way of answering your challenge questions), was in the thirties, I'm guessing 1933-34 (one owner/family that whole time). Art Rooney was one of the founding father's of the NFL, an amatuer boxer and willing to take a chance on a very risky investment/league (which teams like the Jaguars should thank). Original team name was the Pirates (like the basball team), changed to the Steeler's (don't remember the year) and they have used that nickname all but for 1943 when the Steeler's and Eagle's combined to form the Steagle's do to WWll. They also did somethng with the Cardinals after that, but I can't recall it right this moment. As far as the "HERE WE GO STEELER'S, HERE WE GO!!!!" spontaneuos reaction during a game, I doubt anybody could pin point a day or time this became a part of the Steeler vocabulary. You just have to accept that this is one of the greatest sports chants in all of professional sports and we are glad that we have it as our battle/rally cry.

Concerning the weak fan base, have paitience. I've been a Steeler fan since 1969 (first year I remember rooting) and up until we won the first Super Bowl, we were the perenial loser's (how about it burgball). Point being, it takes time to build a fan base, championships help, but playing a particular type of football that a "fan base" can relate to goes a long way in the end.

As far as the bet/challenge goes, I'm not big into the avatar's you young guy's favor (yours) today, but I'll play. If your Jag's beat my Steeler's this year, I'll display a sexy woman of your choice for a week. If I win, you have to go old school football (see Myron Cope) avatar of my choice. Do we have a bet?

It's just speculation but what has Tomlin done that is his yet. The yet part is what would worry me.

Is your defense going to be as aggresive? Is Mendenhal a Jerome Bettis type of player or another large scat back? Is your offensive live going to be able to open up lanes in the middle of the feild with almost the same personel as last year?

Marcus Stroud was out on both games that the Jaguars played the Steelers.  We had Mier in his place and Willie and the other back were pretty much still having to go to the outside of the tackles to get any segnificant yards

Tomlin has left the D alone.. not sure why eveyone assumed we would switch to the 4-3.. nothing out of the front office, or Tomlin has indicated a switch.. If Tomlin came over as DC then I would think that is a stronger possiblity.. So till we start loading up on d-linemen ( we are already thin at this spot for a 3 man line) I'm gonna lean to us sticking with the 3-4..

As for Tomlin putting his "stamp' on the team.. I think most of that was with the offense.. we had far more a balanced attack then we had under Cowher..( other then that Tommy gun year) Tomlin isn't the spit flying, face contorting, passion flowing coach Cowher was..Looking at the face value it apperas hes hasn't done much... He got the veterans to buy into him.. he weathered the offseason with the release of Porter and Faneca blowing up.. He didn't come in and do a major shake up.. but he didn't need to..

I think he will be a good coach.. but really hard to say after just 1 year..

I don't think Menenhal is the next Bettis.. But i think he can be a good 1-2 punch with fwp.. I don't have to tell ya how nice it is to have two rb's who can play.. I'm hoping he can improve our short yard game and help with the  running out the clock..

As for running up the middle I think Hartwig is gonna be huge for us. I know it wasn't a FA pick up that really anyone noticed.. Mahan wasn't a center.. He was undersized and got blown off the ball.. plus he did t6his hread bob thing that practically gave away the snap of the ball. And to your comment.. I'm not sure many teams run up the middle on you guys.. with or without Stoud..

aststeelfan1,

Heck yeah, and appreciate the history lesson. You mentioned the Cardinals was it the Chicago Cardinals or the St. Louis Cardinals. As far as I know the Cardinals and the Lions are the oldest teams.

Yes Tony Bosselli was our first draft pick, I miss watching him play, he was mean and during a run play or should I say after the run play you would catch out of the corner of your screen Bosselli still engaging a defender pushing him down the field.

I'm trying to help my son find a sport as well, glad to hear your son is doing well i know you have to be beaming with pride that's so awesome.

When the Jaguars first were awarded the franchise (as I've probrably said alot on this board) i was a Steelers fan, and was hoping when Coughlin took the team that we would have a similar style of team as the Steelers then. When Del Rio came along and I seen what he was doing with the team I was so excited.

As far as the Jaguars coping the Steelers I think Jacksonville has a lot in common with Pittsburgh and Philadelphia (the cities). Jacksonville is a very industrial city with steel mills factories you know a lot of blue collar jobs so I really think that the style of football that the Jaguars are playing is a good representation of the people in Jacksonville. They work hard are for the most part good people and on the weekends love to play hard as well. I look at the Jaguars and Steelers as little brother and big brother little brother wants to do everything big brother does and big brother doesn't want to be bothered by little brother afraid he'll cramp his style you know.

I think the biggest problem we have with our fan base is Jacksonville has forever been a college town you know Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles and The Georgia Bulldogs. The NFL is grown up football. People are wanting instant results like they get in college if they are a wealthy booster or something. If we aren't winning tickets aren't being sold. We don't have that unconditional support that your team has yet. I'm really impressed with the Steelers fan base when you watch them at an away game and you see more Steeler fans than the home teams fans that says alot and you see that rather the Steelers are losing or winning. That's impressive.

As far as the bet goes that sounds cool.
