in the beginning of the year i told everyone that heilman needs to start and all Mets fans went crazy on me who will pitch the eight blah blah blah  i will bet  he would be a servivable starter more relaxed !!!

the guys got only 2 pitches... he can barely get throught the order the first time what do you think would happen the second and third times around? wow some people just amaze me on these boards...

he is a reliever for a reason...

he needs to develop some sort of breaking ball be it a curve slider... or whatever... just get a serviceable third pitch to keep them guessing more arron...

your still good its just that they know what is coming...

dont be stubborn

AND WE"RE STILL LAUGHING...Heilman has not even been a good relief pitcher this year, so waht makes you think he'll be a better starter?

He's in the bullpen or he's not a Met. It's as clear as anyone can see it - it's black and white no grey.

I agree with Rad.  If a guy cant get a 1-2-3 inning as a reliever,  why would you have faith in him as a starter?

Let me put it this way: even my parents groan when Heilman is called to the mound. That how bad he is.

I don't see how he would be more relaxed when he's starting if he can hardly close a game, but I also don't see any harm in sending him down to AAA to experiment with the idea.

i dont think he should b in the pen, but i could see why u think he would b ok as a starter. some pitchers need a couple innings to settle in, so if he gives up 2 quick runs and throws 5 or 6 innings after of shutout ball its a pretty good outing. thats what some fans were sayin, he needs a couple of innings to get his groove goin. i dont see him succeeding tho with only 2 pitches. like someone said above, he needs to develope some sort of breaking ball ie slider or curve or slurve that can compliment his change and his fastball. guy is just a wierd pitcher, he just needs to keep the ball down or hes terrible. hes really streaky

When Aaron Heilman gets into a groove he will be a good relief pitcher, but not a starter. I am one of the few believers that Heilman is a good pitcher.

I have always stood up for Heilman.  Numbers show that he is a good pitchers.  Impressions are a funny thing.  Everyone remembers the blown game here and there, but no one remembers the innings in between.  I didn't see anyone talking about the 6+ innings he went without giving up a run before the inning in the second game of the double header (after also pitching in the first).

He has worked his ERA down to below a 5 (4.64) and I think will get very comfortable pitching the 7th.  His change up had lost some of that motion earlier in the year and players were just playing Tee ball with that batting practice pitch.  If you've watch recently.  It looks MUCH better.  The years he has come into his own right, he has a WHIP of around 1.1 which is pretty good!  This year its a bit up there with a 1.4+ WHIP, but like his ERA, he has been bringing it down.

Heilman will always continue to get a bad image as long as he is a Met.  Too many fans just hate on him.  I think its unjust, but thats just IMO.

Ooops, I meant to somewhere in that statement of Heilman's defense laugh at this thread.

Heilman will NEVER be a successful starter.  For all the reasons mentioned above.  not enough pitches, can't make it through the order, gets rattled to easily, etc etc.

7th inning relief.  That is where he belongs.
