If the Florida Marlins are looking to build their future around solid young talent then by all means sign him now. Every year that goes by with players of his caliber and higher, the price tag goes up. Contracts are based off of other player’s contracts as foundations for agent’s players. When negotiating agents always throw at owners the contracts that similar players receive. By signing to a long term deal the renegotiating decreases for a new contract and allows for a possible restructuring of the contract later. Which usually is done in favor of the team so they open up money to sign other players.
