Maddux is greater than Clemons…. Before this year is out Greg will pass Roger for number of wins and it took him less time to do it. If we eliminated Rogers use of steroids to get a jolt at the end of his career it would not even be close, but even so, the final result will be that Greg Maddux is the greatest pitcher of the last 20 years.

I think Maddux is one of the best pitchers of the last half century. Him, Gibson, Carlton, Seaver, and Koufax are the 5 best pitchers in the last half century, in my book.

Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens are two totally different pitchers. It really is hard to compare the power pitcher (Clemens) with the precision guy (Maddux).

That being said, in his prime if I had one game i had to win I would have taken Maddux over any pitcher i've ever seen.  He is such a smart pitcher.  Even on an off day for him he could beat you just by out-thinking you.  The guy has been incredible for a very long time.

Roger Clemens is just a self-absorbed jerk whose career was heavily influenced by performance enhancers.

Not even close in my mind

Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens are two totally different pitchers.

You got that right. One plays the game fair and is a good person and the other cheats and is a liar. I will let you figure out which is which but i bet you only need 1 guess....LOL

This is tough as Clemens in his prime pitched in the al while Maddux has much softer lineups to go against.  However, Maddux did have fifteen straight seasons od winning 15 or more games which is the record i believe and was unhittable for a three or four year stretch in Atlanta.  I think in their primes without the help of PED's i would stil take Clemens over Maddux.

Well it depends. A strikeout pitcher is obviously better than a smart pitcher like Maddux because Ks=automatic outs. Less balls in play is better. But Maddux's longevity, even with PED use by Clemens, is still the greater of the two and that means that while he never had the prime Clemens did, his career is more impressive.

Still the most dominant pitcher in history is Sandy Koufax. Just no career length

Please, Maddux could get k's but he prefered you to ground out in 1 or 2 pitches...

Also he played on good Braves teams but only because of the starting pitching, the off. was not great and the bull pen stunk, he would be closing in on 400 if he had a closer to help.

Not only has Maddux distinguished himself as the best pitcher in the majors over the past 15 years, I think he's been also been very influential over the other pitchers on his team as well.  Look at how the whole staff in Atlanta got really good while Maddux got there.  I'm sure part of the reason Peavy has been so much better over the past two seasons is having the fertile mind of Greg Maddux to pick.   I think after his pitching days are over, Maddux should be the most coveted pitching coach in MLB.

Still strikeouts are a little overrated.  Maddux could strike people out when he needed to, but he preferred to be efficient and get outs with fewest pitches thrown.  He does have 3000 career strikeouts though.  And to quote Sandy Koufax..."I became a good pitcher when I stopped trying to make them miss the ball and started trying to make them hit it."
