Today (5-11-08) with Inland...1.0 IP, 0 H, 0K's 0 BB, 0.00 ERA.

29 more days to go, until he returns to LA.  Unless, something happens sooner, but right now, from what I read he is gong to take the entire 30 day rehab assignment.  If all goes well, he could be up sooner though.

Thanks for the update Tremp.  My question is.  If Kershaw comes up on the 17th and does well were does Schmidt fit into the equation?  If both of these guys stay on the big club who gets sent down?  Brazoban and Loaiza and maybe Park?

I think Loaiza nd Park both get Designated for Assignment.  They will eat the contract of Loaiza, but what other choice would they have?  Maybe Brazoban goes back down, if he is ineffective.

I hate to see them just throw Loaiza's contract down the drain but if he can't produce I guess that is the right thing to do.  Park has not been too bad but if it allows Kershaw and a healthy schmidt to be on the big club than I say see ya later!

Torre is quoted saying Schmidt was throwing in the high 80s, low 90s. Thats funny......he was throwing that hard before his surgery.

Maybe that works for A ball, but it wont work in the majors.

bad reporting on my part. As per Rotoworld...which is very liable source.....Jason Schmidt topped out yesterday at 88mph.

Any one else want to argue that Jason Schmidt is coming back? The guy is DONE!!!!!!

I think it's smart for Jason Schmidt to take the full rehab assignment. He's coming off a significant surgery.

I'll disagree with Dtown on the significance of 88 mph at this point. The guy is just starting to throw in games. The whole point is to build back his arm strength. He's not going to be popping 93 mph on the gun right now.

As for Clayton Kershaw, Chan Ho Park and Esteban Loaiza, their futures with the Dodgers are tied together along with Schmidt's.

Kershaw will not be a give-him-the-ball-every-five days pitcher this season. That would pile on too many innings, which would risk destroying his arm. He could get some spot starts in between an assignment back to Las Vegas until September call ups provided that Schmidt does return and pitches effectively.

Park would seem to be the first odd man out, followed by Loaiza. As for eating Loaiza's contract, remember he was a need pickup for an attempt to make the playoffs. It was a big risk right from the start. It didn't pan out. Pay the money and move on.

Whats the difference between Schmidt and say....James McDonald then? Schmidt wasnt throwing over 90mph before the surgery. Now lets say he comes back and throws 92mph.....He has to learn how to pitch all over again. Remember, he was a power pitcher.

Stop it with this over paid, washed up vets. Bring up the farm. I rather forget about this season if they are going to continue sitting Ethier, and give a starting job to Nomar when he has never deserved it, and letting Loiaza pitch instead of McDonald, and Kent go 2-55 instead of letting Hu play, or moving Dewitt to 2nd and actually letting Andy LaRoche play.

There is no such thing as winning while rebuilding. The Dodgers do need to rebuild. They just need to put the best players on the field instead of worrying or thinking about the last names on the jerseys.

I saw on ie66ers.com game article that he topped out at 88, and on Dodgers.com throwing 10 fastballs, and two changeups.  I think that's pretty good, for a guy who isn't supposed to throw more than 75%.  Whether he backed it off, like he was supposed to, I don't know, I'm not him, but if he did, then 88 mph, and a 12 pitch inning only throwing at 75% is pretty, pretty good.   If he doesnt amp up during his next 3 outings, then he either has to turn into Greg Maddux, or he has to hang it up. Becasue you'd be right D-Town07, 88 wont cut it for a power pitcher in the big leagues.  I think as his innings increase so will his MPH.

07, I'm on the he is not done side of the fense.  I might be peeking over in a few weeks, but right now, I still hope.

If y'all will allow me to dream for a bit here.....wouldn't it be great if we were able to get Schmidt back to throwing decently enough to show some resemblance to a major league pitcher?  Also, then get Loaiza on the same page.....then trade em.  Find some sucker who is pushing a playoff spot and is desperate for some veteran major league arms.....however scarred and repaired they are.  That way, we create some space for the young guys and put a few d
