FlainDC.......Nope my neighbor is not odd at all and he is not alone.....There are a lot of people on both sides of the bay that feel that way and that includes politicians.........It's amazing to read the history between these two counties and all the in fighting and hatred that has gone on over the years.......It's really a shame that people who live in Tampa won't go to Rays game because it's in St. Pete and people in St. Pete-Clearwater won't go to Bucs or Lightning game because it's in Tampa or for most any event for that matter.......
As for the Hartline thing, the Rays new ownership even offered to put upfront money for fuel for the busses and chose 5 locations for people to ride to and from the Trop and Hartline flat out refused......You have to understand one thing about Tampa and Tampa Bay.....King George doles out millions for charity and other things, like new police cars for the Tampa PD that MUST, and do, have the Yankees logo on them.....He holds a lot of power in Tampa and many businesses, people and higher ups will not buck him and give in to what he wants.....Hell he won't even allow Rays games on the TVs in the sports bar of his hotel here, unless they are playing the Yankees!!!
I do know that the new Governor, Charlie Christ, is very pro light rail and rapid transit and knows that something must be done and I am sure it eventually will.
Art - A quick reply before I venture out to find some lunch.
I do not know the veracity of your statements regarding the Tampa-St. Pete rivalry; all I know is that I was born and raised in Tampa and never have I known anyone who took it to the extreme of not crossing over to the otherside. Light hearted jabbing? Sure. But never anything raising to the absurd. But, maybe I've just never seen it. Either way, I think we can both agree that if it exists, it's really stupid.
Also, I know that Steinbrenner is a... well-connected philanthropist... in the area, but I have also never seen a Tampa PD cruiser with a Yankee sticker on it. If I did, I think I would vandalize it on principle. I would certainly vommit.
FlainDC.......There were 10 TPD cars with the logo, earlier this year the Chief had them removed because of the flack......GS has vowed to never donate to the TPD because of that now.....the man has gotten very old, senile and now his son's big mouth has taken over......
Yes I agree about people carrying this county grudge for all these years is stupid, but it does exist no matter how people may want to say it doesn't....When I read some of that history between the two all I cvould think of were kids at a playground arguing over "it's my ball, so I play and I can't I'm taking my ball and going home....boo hoo!"
Have a great lunch, I need to get somne writing and editing done here at the office.....talk again!!
I said: The Trop is an old ballpark that opened up in 1990, not 1998, as most would believe since that is the year of the inception of the team formerly known as the Devil Rays - the impact should be greater, and the new stadium will have a retractable dome and modern amenities, instead of a circus tent with obstructions, blocking out the sunlight, owing to its ominous appearance.karandrs said: Retractable dome? Do you know what you're talking about? It's a mast and sail system. Do some research.
And research I did! This is an excerpt from a Wikipedia article:
"Among the features proposed for the ballpark is the "Mast and Arch" retractable roof. It is a fabric screen that can be pulled over the field and most of the stands during periods of rain, thus providing protection from the elements while retaining the feel of an open-air stadium. The roof can supposedly be fully-deployed within eight minutes. In addition, the concourses will be enclosed and air-conditioned."
Ok, so maybe its not exactly a dome, but still, my point/idea is the same. Whether its a retractable dome or retractable roof, I don't dissociate between the two. To me, the difference is only slight, although roof is a more general term.
