I started out this season not liking Sidney Crosby one bit, and not thinking much of Evgeni Malkin.  The more the season went on, the more I realized how much better Malkin is than Crosby, and I started to respect his playing ability.  He's an animal out there, how can you not respect it?  I'll tell you how.  As the season went on and the more I saw of him, the more chippy little crap I noticed.  Like how he waits for people to be engaged in a scrum before going in and rabbit punching someone.  Or only pushing and shoving and facewashing smaller guys.  But that was just an aspect  that I didn't like, and I still thought he was a good player.  Then come the playoffs.  Malkin slewfoots Paul Mara, possibly the most cowardly act you can pull on the ice, unless you're Todd Bertuzzi.  I lost my respect for him right there.  There is no excuse ever to do that.  Then we have Game 1 of the ECF.  Scrum starts late in the game, Malkin waits until Petr Sykora has Derian Hatcher in a bear hug before rabbit punching Hatcher repeatedly in the face.  That really set me off.  Then we have Game 2.  I honestly don't even know what to say here.  Malkin deliberately elbows Danny Briere in the head.  You cannot endanger the safety and mental health of a human being over a HOCKEY GAME!  Concussions are not fully understood yet, and carry many long-term implications.  I don't know if Briere has a concussion, but he sure looked pretty concussed.  When you so cavalierly disregard another human's well-being, you're not worth respect.

I used to think you were a good player, Malkin.  But watching you these last few weeks has made me sick.  You're a disgusting piece of sh*t excuse for a hockey player.

I'm not minimizing his skill, or how good he really is.  I don't care how good he is.  Nobody is good enough to offset his despicable actions in these playoffs.  He has lost every ounce, every iota of respect I've ever had for him.

I know he will say otherwise, but I doubt it.

Maybe the Flyers should change their name to the Saints.

HAHAHA

So, natedogg3, it seems the Pens have gotten the two most despicable superstars in the history of the NHL! 20 year old Crosby and 21 year old Malkin. I'd take em.

I am going to write this off to the natural rivalry that borders on insane in Pennsylvania, kind of like it was when I was a kid and HATED Montreal.

The residual effect on me of this loathing was that I came to HATE New Jersey  (most hated team because of Lemaire) and the Wild and teams where Montreal's ex-players go to  coach because I feel they all hook and hold, just the way they were taught in Montreal to cheat and get away with it with the stupid refs. There. I feel better too!

Whwn you hate a team, you naturally see all the crap they do. It is all part of sports. Not liking each other's players comes with real passion. Ask Ottawa how they feel about the guys on the Leafs. Hatred, I say.

If this series goes 6 or 7, the hatred will really grow!!! If that is possible.

But what do I think about Lemaire as a player?

Well, I respect him a lot. He was pure Hall of Fame in my books.

  • Fast enough to keep up with Lafleur
  • Strong on the puck
  • Excellent 2-way center, not afraid to start deep in his end.
  • Excellent transition speed (acceleration)
  • Booming slap shot! Sunk Chicago's Stanley Cup in game 7 with shot from CENTER ICE with Canadians losing 2 nothing.
  • Great leader, team player.

He is a winner. And, I cannot remember the things he did I hated so much. I think it was just hooking and stuff when I just wasn't pulling for his team. Not things like you (natedogg3) complained that Malkin was doing (dirty and cheap stuff).

Craig, I never said Crosby was a despicable player.  I respect his ability.  I don't like the diving he did when he came into the league, which he has mostly eliminated from his game.  I don't like his constant whining to the refs.  But one thing he doesn't do is he doesn't cheapshot people.  Except for Biron earlier this season, hahaha.  But I'm talking about cheapshotting and trying to hurt people.  I've never seen him do anything like that.  Maybe he has, I don't know.  But Malkin has done it twice this postseason.

I agree about the hating and seeing the bad stuff, but I'm not blind to the good stuff, either.  The Pens are a very good team.  If they were terrible, I don't think I'd hate them as much.  I don't minimize their accomplishments, and I think they can go all the way.  I also think the Flyers can too.  It's a very even match-up.

Pittpens, I agree that Letang started it, and I don't know why there weren't even up penalties on that.  Malkin didn't wind up and punch Hatcher, he gave him little rabbit punches, which is all he ever does.

If he was a Flyer, would I have brought this up?  When Jesse Boulerice hit Kesler, I said I really didn't like it.  When Downie hit McAmmond, I said I didn't like it.  If I see Flyers doing things I don't like, I will say something about it.  Whether you believe me or not is up to you.

Ahh fanosteel.  No thread would be complete until a Pens fan threw out the "jealousy" excuse.  I have to tell you, you're very original.

There are always going to be these types of players (theo fleury anyone?). I don't respect everything they do, but I definately respect his skill. Overall, he might be a somewhat dirty player, but not a Tootoo or anything.

I used to think you were a good player, Malkin.  But watching you these last few weeks has made me sick.  You're a disgusting piece of sh*t excuse for a hockey player.

This thought and this thread all from a guy who recently said he doesn't go out of his way to bash the Penguins and their players. Chalk this up as the 2nd thread you recently created just for that reason alone. I'm sure everyone will now hate not only Crosby, but Malkin now too, just because of your wise and insightful outlook. Give me a break.

And since you are so worried about hockey players possibly doing something that might hurt another player (wow, wouldn't that be something new in the NHL), how about this tidbit from your Flyers' own saintly Derian Hatcher after being called for boarding the Canadiens Francis Bouillon...

"The call is the call. I am not going to sit here and say
anything, but I wish I didn't let up on him," Hatcher said of
his hit on defenseman Francis Bouillon. "If I am going to get
(a five-minute penalty), I might as well finish it (the hit).

He was quoted at different times, from different sources, and was sincere that he wished he finished the check. A check that put a player into the boards.

Hmmmm. I guess you should run out and start a thread about how dispicable Hatcher is. For that matter, why not start threads about every player thay has done something that might/did hurt someone?

Oh wait, that's right. Only the Penguins do such things. My bad.

Take whatever you want out of context, Pezkiz.  I really don't care.  Hatcher's boarding call was very weak, to say the least.  That's what he was saying about the call.  That same play happened 15 times in that series, and more than half of them were against the Flyers, and no other one resulted in a boarding call.  I didn't see anywhere in that quote that Hatcher was trying to hurt anyone.  In fact, I saw that he said he let up on the guy, so as NOT to hurt him.  Let me get this straight.  A player wishing he finished a check into the boards is now despicable?  So every NHL player is despicable, according to you.  The reason I called Malkin disgusting AS A HOCKEY PLAYER( I don't know him as a person) is because the two incidents I've seen him involved with this postseason, he's deliberately attempted to seriously hurt another player.  It wasn't by trying to finish a check, either.  Slewfooting can really mess up knees, as Mark Eaton knows, and elbows to the head can cause concussions, which can end careers.  I haven't seen anybody else do anything like Malkin's done, and if I had, I'd say something about it.

I'm not worried about hockey players doing things that may possibly hurt another player.  Every body check and slap shot may possibly hurt another player.  I'm worried about hockey players TRYING to hurt other hockey players.  I'm worried about players kids are supposed to look up to TRYING to hurt other players.

I don't go out of my way to bash on the Penguins.  It's weird, they're playing the Flyers right now, and I usually watch Flyers games no matter who they're playing.  When they do something and I'm watching and I see, I say something.  I'm not going out of my way to bash the Penguins.

Oh wait, that's right. Only the Penguins do such things. My bad.I realize you have not been reading my posts all season long, but I was just as riled about the Mattias Ohlund/Mikko Koivu incident and Tony Lydman's elbowing of Scottie Upshall, to name a few.  I never said only Penguins commit dirty plays.  You may choose to only see what you want to, but there's nothing I can do about that.

The only other recent thread I can think of that I started was about Pens fans.  Maybe I'm missing one?  I don't know what other one you're talking about.
