Simply put, is there any chance that Dave Bush doesn't suck tonight and actually gives this team a shot to win this game?

Probably not but on a positive note, Dave's only outing this season against the Cardinals went pretty well.  He pitched 6 innings and allowed just 3 runs on 6 hits.  His last outing is also kind of a head-scratcher; he gave up 6 runs on just 5 hits.  Dave has been keeping guys off the bases for the most part but when they do get on, they seem to come around to score.

On a not so positive note, the Brewers face Adam Wainwright tonight which basically means that the Brewers don't have much of a chance to win the game no matter how well Bush pitches.  Wainwright has allowed just 3 ER on 9 hits, while striking out 12 in his 14.2 IP against the Brewers this season.

The Brewers' bats are beginning to warm up a bit but the combination of Bush for the Brewers and Wainwright for the Cardinals seems like an uphill climb from the get-go.

Bush is capable of 5 solid innings, but should be pulled at that time no matter how well he's pitching. Yost then needs to learn to pitch his middle relievers longer than 1 inning especially when they are doing well.  It's frustrating to continually see our mid relievers get yanked after a solid inning because Yost needs to "situational pitch" every chance he gets.

A lot of the time, the relief pitchers are being pulled in favor of a pinch hitter, not because Yost doesn't want them going longer.  A lot of guys in this bullpen have pitched more than 1 inning per appearance.  But you're right about getting Bush out at any sign of trouble.  He always seems to have that one bad inning that he just can't do anything right with and Ned needs to get the bullpen in the game at any sign of that.

I would like to think seeing Wainwright for the third time in a relativly short period of time is an advantage for the Crew, but I'm still not all that confident in the bats.  As has been stated above, Bush has to be "managed".   As soon as the lineup turns over for the third time, the pen needs to be ready to come in at a moments notice.  Hardy, Weeks, Hart, Fielder and Braun all appear to be turning a corner, but we thought that a few weeks ago as well.  It would be a nice confidence boost taking three of four in the series and then we can see if we cant start chipping away at the Cubs who are suddenly hot again.

If the Brewers can some how get to Wainwright early I like their chances to win. I think Bush pitches well tonight. I'm not saying 7 scoreless by any means but I like him for a solid six innings with 2 runs given up. The Cardinals are in a little funk of their own right now having lost 4 of their last 5 games. Hopefully the offense is clicking tonight and we can actually string some hits together.

Sounds like Pujols may sit this one out tonight.  That wont hurt things.

Can we say he is due for a win???  Maybe.   His stuff is starting to look a little better.  He needs to stop leaving his fastball up and in and maybe he will give up less hommers.  How bout we give him some run support to take the pressure off a little and let him relax and hit his spots.

Albert is career 2 for 11 vs. Dave Bush.  That is probably why he is getting the day off.

How ironic to have a player who undoubtedly is one of the greatest hitters in modern baseball be so ineffective against a pitcher the likes of Dave Bush! Only in baseball I guess.

To answer the thread, um, I don't think so.

Where you guys getting the lineups from?  Or where did you hear Pujols sittin' down?  The Brewers may have a chance with him on the bench.  That offense seems to revolve around him; with good reason.  Anytime he's out of it, that lineup gets approached extremely differently.

Rotoworld had a blip with a quote from LaRussa saying he was going to sit Pujols Monday night.  Of course he could change his mind, but that was the quote.

simply put, is there any chance the sun doesn't come up tomorrow?

sorry to say it, but i have more confidence in Teddy Higuera right now, than I do Dave Bush.  I think he is the weakest link in the rotation right now.  I was never a big fan of his.  He was always too inconsistent.  He would have moments of brillance that made you think he could be a number 2 or at worst a solid #3 and then the next outting just mess the bed...this year he hasn't done anything to suggest that he belongs on a major league roster.  My under for tonight is 4 innings.

He may be the 'weakest link', but unfortunately we have no other serious options without delving into the farm and taking a chance on another youngster.

It's a sad situaion and hopefully something turns around.  Rich Harden is apparently available to the highest bidder from the A's.  He's basically a less talented Ben Sheets.  He is a very good pitcher when healthy but just can't manage to stay off the DL.  If he can put together a string of good health, the Brewers may have no choice but to take a chance on him if they want to compete.

Eh, let's not get too hung up on one game here.  This was the last game in a long road series for the Cards and one that featured Pujols on the bench for the duration.  Like I said earlier, the lineup is pitched completely different with him out.

Although...don't look now, but Brewers starters have strung together 3 straight quality starts and in game one of the series, Parra was just an IP shy of a QS.

Dave Bush was the least sucky pitcher on the field for the Brewers tonight.

Make sure you bookmark this post and write it on the calendar.  Those words may never be uttered again.
