Well, the mental mistakes this team commits on a regular basis are absolutely unacceptable.  I'm not telling you guys anything you didn't already know.  Pickoffs, missed cutoff men, the inability to bat in the proper order, etc. are the norm for this team, and the underlying attitude is the reason this team is severely underperforming considering the talent we have.  i am not sure whether it is a lack of desire, or simple incompetence, but obviously it needs to change.  i would not be surprised if Busty simply did not know how a double switch works, and neither would it surprise me to hear that he just wasn't paying attention to the game at the time of that embarrassing blunder, and either case is inexcusable.  i personally believe the man is plain incompetent.  he's given us enough reason to think so.  outside of bullpen management, a managers #1 job is to have the players ready to play; to establish the team mentality.  dusty has brought a mentality that says no one is accountable for anything they do.

on a related topic, i'm sure everyone is tired of seeing Corey Patterson eliminate himself on offense and do the other teams job for them.  on the rare occasions he actually does make it on base, i would suppose because of his unfamiliarity with being in that situation, he often proceeds to be picked off.  also, he is stealing bases at just over 60% success rate.  so in those games where patterson is both picked off and caught stealing, i'm calling this elusive feat a patterson combo, because the person who does this is doing everything in their power to help the team lose.  if it is not actually all that common for patterson, i attribute this solely to the fact that patterson is almost never on base, much less twice a game, in order to achieve it.

I could not agree more.   There is an overwhelming factor of bad fundamental baseball on defense and the bats are colder than my sub-zero.   My optimism for the team making to the .500+ mark this year are dwindling to say the least.  The team needs to make a move in order add a spark but they are limitted in the actions that they can take.  Hopefully they can make a trade to free up a spot in the outfield to bring up Bruce who is doing well with the Bats this season.

And to address Patterson specifically...  He has to go I want to root for the guy because he has the physical tools but his head just seems to not get his head into the game all the time.

Yeah, I am starting to realize more and more that this team has something wrong at it's inner-core.  We see glimpses of brilliance from this team but it's usually followed by a disgraceful performance.  A lot of the time this sort of inconsistent behavior is the cause of bad coaching.  A coach needs to keep their players heads in the game.  They need to keep them on their toes and make them stay hot.  We haven't had a sweep in so long and we have, what, two win streaks, none more than 5 games?  Come on.

As for Patterson, the guy is a disgrace.  He is so terrible that it's painful to watch.  You can almost call what is going to happen.  One way or another he is going to mess up and I just hope he doesn't injure Keppinger or Votto in the process... What a loser.

This could be a Cubs post from 2004-06.  I have no idea, outside of having the greatest chemical freak of nature in history, how he managed to win all of those games in SF.  He should send Barry Bonds and Jason Schmidt something nice for Christmas, because he has been cashing checks off of them for at least 5 years now.

I just don't see what is so special about Corey Patterson to keep him on the Reds roster. Obviously the fans are not happen with him. Managemant can't be happy with his .196 batting average, and his .252 on base percentage. He is not a leadoff hitter, and his uppercut swing does nothing more than produce weak popups.

Corey Pattersons best year was in  2003 with the Chicago Cubs. He batter .298 but that was in only 83 games. He is a career .256 hitter with a career .296 on base percentage. He has stolen 173 bases in 217 attempts not bad at a 79%. He has also struck out 722 times in 3202 at bats, or once every 4.4 at bats. So where do you play a guy like this? He is a number 8 hitter in the National League at best. He has 37 assist and 24 errors in his eight year career, so it's not like he is a gold glove candidate. He has 39 sacrifice hits in his career, so obviously he is not good at moving runners into scoring position. His strikeout to walk ratio is 4.4 strikeouts per every walk. He is not a power hitter with only 98 career home runs so he is very impatient at the plate.  He was slated as the overused term "five tool player" coming into the majors. The only tool he has now is Dusty's tool, in his hand after every game to still be on this roster!

I haven't been able to tell on TV, does the Reds crowd boo Patterson when he comes up yet?  I'm sure the crowd does when he screws up, I think Busty might get the clue how horrible we hate him if he got booed every time he comes to bat.

Hoosier, I wish I could be right there with you when Patterson came up to the plate. I would gladly drop my Skyline Dog and Bud Light to make sure I had both hands to my mouth like a megaphone to make sure that he could hear me good and loud!

Just reminds me of a time when Mike Morgan used to play for the Reds in 1997. He was warming in the bullpen and my uncle and I kept yelling "Meat and PussTosser "Time for batting practice" from about 10 rows up from the bullpen when they were in Riverfront. He promptly got shelled! LOL!
