So I was at Miller Park on saturday for the match up between the Cards and the Brew Crew. I have been to games in the past and I have never had problems. Now I was not wearing my Cardinal red but I was cheering for them. When Duncan hit his home run things were thrown at me, and telling me to sit down and stop cheering. Then I heard refences to La Russa's DUI last year and also the death of one of our players Hancock. The people in our section were laughing about this thinking it was funny.
Same thing last year, we were talking back to our car and a bunch of brewer fans tried picking a fight with us yelling go back to St. Louis, and this was after an 11-3 loss for the Cards. We were not talking crap at all, just walking.
THis time we were in the cheap seats, and usually we are sitting close to the dugouts. But do people usually act like that in those sections. I know that this does not speak for all of the Brewers fans, and that every team has their bad apples but did i just run into a bunch of ignorant fans. It just seems like to me that ever since the team's expectation have been rising, and more fans are going to the games, you get a lot of band wagon fans that dont really care for the game of baseball. So my question to you is have you guys noticed anything like this at Miller Park.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I wish stuff like this would not happen, but that's life.

It depends on which section you were in and the level of your ovation for Duncan. Keep in mind that the Brewers are fresh off back to back sweeps and a 6 game losing streak. We've lost Gallardo and for the most part, weekend games are just an opportunity for people to buy up the cheap seats, get hammered and do things like this.
Although not always fiscally possible, I try and avoid any 400 level seats whenever possible. You'd be surprised the difference in fan behavior just by a ticket price increase of $5-$10. But this is really to be expected anywhere you go.

citron,
I was not cheering that loud, I stood up and was just clapping. I do agree with you about the 400 level seats. Probally not the best place to be if you are cheering for another team

While I would never advocate throwing anything or making jokes at the expense of a dead player, it is kind of nice to hear that fans at Miller Park are becoming less "friendly" toward opposing teams fans. I have no problem with you being told to be quiet and sit down or the cracks about LaRussa. Consider yourself lucky you were not a Cub fan during a Cub game under the same circumstances. If I walked into Bush and was cheering for the Brewers after Fielder just hit a home run, I would expect some flack.

irish, Citron is correct. Cheap seats for the weekend games are mostly occupied by power drinking nimrods that, for the most part, pay no attention to the game whatsoever. Most of these are of the bandwagon variety who probably couldn't name one player on the Brewers roster from 5 years ago.
I also am sorry you had to experience that. The majority of Brewer fans are good natured and well mannered and treat fans of visiting teams with respect. It is unfortunate that "dill holes" like these can paint an inaccurate picture of the Brewers fan base but I guess every team has their share of a$$pipe fans.

I am sorry that you were treated poorly at Miller Park.
As a Brewer fan that no longer lives in Wisconsin, I try to get to every series I can when they're near my new hometown-of-the-moment.
I recently went to the Mets-Brewers matchup (game 2 of the series) between Sheets and Santana in Shea. There I stood up and cheered for every Brewer homerun (3 I believe) and generally cheered on the Brewers. I took a little good-natured ribbing from the fans directly around me, but they still respected me coming into their home. I realize there's a difference when it's an intra-divisional rivalry (like Brewers-Cubs or Brewers-Cards), but I would hope that every "opposing fan" gets treated with the same respect that I did in New York, considered by many one of the rudest cities in the country (an opinion I happen to disagree with).
I'll try to make it out to a Brewers-Giants game (next month?) and will let you know how they treat me there too:)

I didnt care about the LaRussa comment, or telling me to sit down. But throwing stuff at me and talking about the player who died I thought was un called for. I have been to a lot of games and I have never had a problem. I live in Milwaukee so I make it to the games when the Cards are here. That is why I titled this thread I was shocked. Milwaukee fans have always been great and a lot of fun to be around.
Usually I love games at Miller Park, tailgating, the sausage race and singing roll out the barrell is something that no other park does. I am not trying to bash the Brewers or the Brewers fans, all I was asking was since the team now is expected to compete if fans that actually follow the Brewers have noticed a difference.

I have to say sorry for how you were treated it seems like there has been more of this with the band wagon fans the last couple years. Like others said a long losing streak that got a lot of people angry. It's still not a good excuse but it is what it is so sorry once again.
