What are the top 3 things that - standing alone - could determine whether the Chiefs are in the playoff hunt or completely out of it?  I rank them in the following order:

1.  Brodie Croyle:  Even if LJ gets hurt again we have Smith & Charles.  We have Bowe & Gonzo to throw to and our O-line should be at least a little bit better than last year.  If he doesn't put it together this year KC's season is done, Brodie's time in KC is done, and i'm sure alot of the front office will be gone as well.

2.  The O-line:  It will likely be improved but we need the new starters to step up.  Otherwise Brodie might become ruined goods.

3.  The play of the DL - specifically when it comes to stopping the run:  I think Glenn Dorsey will be more valueable to us than Jared Allen because while Allen was a freak when it came to rushing the passer he wasn't all that spectacular when stopping the run.  The more we force the pass the more the other team will play into our defensive gameplan.

In order I choose:

Defense--This is our backbone of our team, if the defense doesn't show up there's no way we can stand a chance in winning any games.

O-line--The pass protection will determine if Brodie Croyle is a legit QB and they have to  opens up holes for our RB's to create big plays.

Special Teams--Has to get great field postion on both sides of the ball, Punt Return, kickoffs, punts, and field goals to help us stay in close games.

I like both of your points and your both on the right track!

Defense is #1 priority, because they'll have to keep us in the game long enough to develop into our own. The seconed major factor will be the O-line and if they can play decent enough for Brodie to throw(he doesnt need much time) and create a whole or two for some running room. Third I'd also agree with 816 in Special teams, because they should be our upperhand! If we get good special teams play then we get good field position and thats all we need. We all know Colquitt has a BOOT! Now lets see if Sams and the kid we drafted can get us some return yards.

Brodie will blossom this year, I bet. Cannot believe that David Greene has a chance to take Croyle's job considering this guys never even sniffed a NFL field. Need to work your way through the clipboard before taking Brodie's shot!!!

We all in for a big surprise with Brodie! He's a youngman rocking the mullet like Deberg.

I am as big a Chiefs fan there is and as much as I'd like to entertain that question.  Under no circumstance does Kansas City have a chance at making the playoffs.  Even if everyone is completly healthy last year they were a 4-5 win team.  The main thing is to get everyone signed and in camp on time.  We had a chance to be 5-0 if everyone was ramped up at the beginning of the season.  We definatly take a step back with Croyle as starter.  He has always turned the ball over.  And with Herm's style of offense your defense can't withstand as many plays as it is before it gives up a big play with 2 young safeties (remember the Packers game?)  I'm getting a second team to cheer for that WILL make the playoffs.......maybe I'll become a Cowboys fan. : )  Cause it will be a long year again this year for us Chief faithful.  They did fantastic in the draft but it will be one or two years before it pays dividends to start talking about the playoffs.

I hope you are just joking, because a true fan wouldn't bail out because of a rebuilding period.  We may not make the playoffs, and I think you need to give Croyle a chance with some support, and remember we have Cahn Gailey calling the plays, not an O-line coach.  As I've stated before we could go 10-6 or 5-11, nobody knows yet.  We have had two succesfull drafts before this one, and have quite a bit of talent on this team.  The Packers were the youngest team in the league last year and made the NFC championship.  I hope we do compete for the playoffs, and you can eat a big shitburger!

By the way, that was directed at the bandwagon fan ERVDOGin AZ.  I have no problems with him stating his opinion, but jumping ship because we are gradually improving, and may not have a good year, well that really pisses me off.  We don't need fans like that.  We all need to remain optimistic.  We can criticize our team, we all do, but for hell sakes we have no clue how they will do this year.  There's been a whole lot of changes, all for the better.

"I'm getting a second team to cheer for that WILL make the playoffs.......maybe I'll become a Cowboys fan." --ERVDOGin AZ

Woo Hoo!! Good bye bye.. you BIG Chiefs Fan you!! Way to go!!

Perhaps the Cowboys are the perfect team for you, or more like the Chargers?? Yeah, the Chargers are a perfect fit for that statement! Did you really mean it? Are you related to Goo Goo? LOL!!

A big Chiefs fan understands the value of rebuilding a team and getting younger. If the Chiefs are to become a better team capable of actually winning a playoff game for once in our lifetime, then we as fans must wait out the tough seasons while our team developes into the power house Herm invisions. I believe Herman Edwards is doing what it takes to make the Chiefs a good, dominating team for along time. If it takes one or two years to become a true contender then by all means, I'll take the back roads to the super bowl with my team any time. It will make winning a super bowl that much more meaningful in the end! Stay true or get out! Only the strong fans will survive the bumpy ride! 4X4 Offroading buddy, the way we true Chiefs fans like it! YAW!!!

I'm gonna have to disagree on that one...... Enjoy that new team with a Chardonay, crab puffs, linen napkins and your Sunday skirt.
