My brother's really knowledgeable about our Philadelphia teams and we were talking about the possibility of a Ryan Howard trade due to his potential "greediness".  On top of the arbitration money, he said that the front office has already offered a 7-year, 100 million dollar contract that he turned down (THE SAME NUMBERS AS Albert Pujols).  But he said that Howard was rumored to be looking for an 8-year deal worth around 150 million.

In that case, wouldn't we be better off keeping Chase Utley, shelling out big bucks for Cole Hamels and getting some goods for Ryan Howard?  At this rate, no one is going to be wanting to give up considerable players, but we could use a solid pitching core for years to come.  What do you guys think?

I wouldn't think any first baseman is worth more than 10 million per year, the 100 million was too much, even if he slammed in 20 or more HRs by now. First base is basically where the worst fielder on the team goes (relative to the other positions). If that is the money he is seeking, you could use that kind of cash on a few half-decent pitchers, or two consistent hitters that can field well.

I would hope he isn't that greedy yet though, and would sign a shorter term deal to try to win a Championship with the Phillies. But that is dreaming I suppose.

If it's true, then Howard is making a mistake. He may get a better deal down the road, and he may have a career ending injury. When a player has a high risk of getting injured frequently, it sends their contract value plummeting, even if they put up great numbers when they're playing.

Based on his numbers this year, I think the arbitration ruling was a big joke.

I would trade him for value while he still has it!....first, he's a horrible fielder, and so far this year he's only won one game for us with his bat...and I'm sick and tired...tired always follows sick...of the K's....I'd rather he pop up and ground out instead of striking out...you can't make things happen when you're walking back to the dugout...PUT THE BALL IN PLAY...he can hit 40 HR's but if he strikes out 200 times again, he should pay the Phillies 10 million...I really don't see how he is going to become a  consistent hitter that will hit for average...ever!  I mean, cmon, the overshift...it's a joke, he could bunt the ball to short...he's only hit it to that hole one time this year that I've seen....it just befuddles me...

I would def like to see them trade him as long as it doesn't turn into an Abreu type trade where the phils are essentially giving him away and getting nothing in return.  If they can't get an all-star player then it is not worth getting rid of him.  If he continues on this K pace I guarantee he won't be lucky enough to win arbitration again.

The Phillies will not trade Ryan Howard anytime soon. I don't think he can become a free agent for around four more years. The Phillies will just have to go to arbitration over and over again. Trading Ryan Howard would be a terrible PR move. Guy's that hit 50 homeruns and knock in 130 Rbi's don't come around too often. Give the big guy time and he will get hot. GO Phillies ! & Flyers !!
