Product of lack of Wins?  Or Product of an Improved Bullpen? You make the call.

I for one think its a mix of both, we havent had many save oppurtunities so its not too hard to see why were the only team in the show without a blown save, but also Cordero has pitched well when he comes in.  His WHIP isnt too good, but hes always able to work himself out of it.  Our bullpen has its bright spots and rough edges, but overall they have been doing good enough to keep us in the game or not give up the lead.

This is actually something I was talking about with some friends after the win yesterday.  The announcers were all talking about the lack of blown saves but Cordero has really had very limited time on the mound.  They even brought him out a few days ago just so he could get some work done.  It wasn't even a save opportunity.  Still, I think Cordero has been getting the job done, even if a few of the times have been huge scares.

From what ive seen thats always been how cordero is, he seems to always allow a hit or walk, but hes always been able to work his way out of it.  Maybe its just showmanship and scaring the crowd is his favorite pastime, but as long as he gets the job done i dont care how man men he allows on base.

Our bullpen is pretty solid.  Francisco Cordero is a great closer, Jared Burton and Bill Bray has great young arms.  David Weathers is the crafty veteran that can teach them how to get batters out without having their best stuff.  The nice part is that we have kids in the minors also.  Danny Herrera, Jon Adkins, Jim Brower, and Josh Roenicke are pitching great.  The future sure looks bright.

Roenicke and Herrera have me excited, Roenicke is looking great so far, and during spring training he was fanning the big league guys too, i think hes close to being ready.  If i had my way though, Herrera would be on his way up, he hasnt give up a run yet in AAA and thats through about 12 innings.  He is going to help this team for years to come and makes the Hamilton trade even more worth it.

We've had to endure baseball's worst bullpen the last few years, so our bullpen is a lot better.  The no blown saves stat is skewed a bit because of lack of opportunities, but believe me, we'd be lucky to have any saves with the bullpen of past years....or if we still had that idiot Todd Coffey still serving gofer balls.  Hmmm...we send Coffey down, our bullpen is better...no, it's not just a coincidense!
