What is going on with the # 21 this year in New York
WOW what a slap in the face from the front office to TIki
I spent alot of time agruing against La'Troy Hawkins getting #21 for the Yankees this year
some of it having to do with the kind of impact that Paul O'neil Made for the Yankees during his tenure
Now 1 year after Tiki Barber retires they give away his number
Here is a guy who has been pissing me off and disrespecting the team since he retired (and before that too)
but he did spend his whole career with the Giants and is # 17 on the NFL all-time rushing Leaders list
there have been some great Running Backs that have played this game that is a huge deal!
I do not know if it is the right move
I guess there is no way they were retiring his number? B/c he could be in the HOF
IDK at least wait a few years in my opinion!

Looking at those numbers, if Tiki stuck around he could have easily made it into the top 10 with a possibility of cracking the top 5 if he stuck around long enough. He didn't take alot of hits and made people miss so he could have lasted long enough to make it.

Well, let's look at it this way...
Of all of the greatest Giants of the last 30 years, only Simms and Taylor's numbers have been retired. We could argue a case to retire Carson's, but who else has earned the right for a team that hasn't retired many numbers? Strahan's will be retired, there's no question of that, but I can't think of anyone else that can be given that right. Don't get me wrong, there's a few I would like to see retired. Tiki Barber put up great numbers, and did great things, and might even have a shot at the HOF(though I don't see it happening myself), but I don't see him getting #21 retired. It's time for Phillips to take the number over, and for us to move on.

Did we have someone named Tiki??
There I'm over it and congrats to the new #21. Hopefully with a better attitude.

Have no problem with Phillips getting #21..partly because he is doing it somewhat to honor Sean Taylor. Also...I would say it was a huge slap in the face to Tiki, EXCEPT he left us sort of high and dry by retiring early (or at least so we thought ;), turns out he was divisive in the clubhouse and undermined Tom Coughlin, and then still couldnt keep his mouth shut after he left. So as far as Im concerned...he lost all entitlement to the number if you add all that up.
And just to further Billysmalls post, the Oneill thing infuriated me. (For full disclosure..he was my favorite player) but heres a guy who, if you wanted to, you can pinpoint the Yankees revival with his arrival and their decline with his departure. Gave everything he had on the field and was an ultimate team player. And then to give his number away is fine, if youre not going to retire it..but..Latroy Hawkins??? Cmon..you want to give it to some amazing prospect ala Joba...or some free agent who has worn it or deserves it...fine..but Im glad everyone saw the light and had it changed.
(sorry..know this is a Giants message board..thats the last youll hear from me about that)

I did not want to bring it up either since that has been resolved
but i thought it was ironic that it was the same #21
I do agree with your points considering how Tiki has acted, but I think it is too soon
B/C he wants to act like a child does not mean a classy organization like the Giants has to stoop to his level!
