It is a designation for players who play both positions. like suggs, wimbley, DeMarcus Ware, merriman, etc. Players who on one play are in a 4 point stance, and the next play are upright as a LB. I dont understand why you guys have a problem with this. Plenty of players refuse to sign the one year tender when they are franchised, like Shaun Alexander, until they have some guarantee or some leverage. Suggs hasnt done that because he wants to be on good terms with haurbaugh and ozzie, and he knows he will get his money.
Because of the debate over his designation, the two sides were unable to negotiate on a long term deal. I have no doubt they will successfully work out a deal.
And for all those knocking suggs production last year, i will say this. Any pass rusher can be stopped without a good pass rusher on the other side. Once Pryce went down with that injury, it wasnt likely suggs would have a good year. So its not really his fault. He gave it his all, and he is up there among the players with the most sacks ever in his first 4 years. Plus he is only 25. So give him some slack....
