During the Norm Hitzges - 1310 The Ticket, Dallas - show this morning, he brought up Roy Williams salary issues. I thought this was very interesting...

Please forgive me if I am off on the numbers... its been a few hours since then.

Roy Williams is scheduled to make around 3.5 mil this year base salary, but in 2009 his salary goes up to about 4 to 4.5 mil. And in 2010 its about 5 mil.

He signed a 5 year extension in which his signing bonus was 11.1 mil or about 2.25 mil a year. This money IS GUARANTEED!

If the Cowboys are to drop him after June 1, then 2.25 will be counted against the cap, but his base salary of 3.5 is dropped... saving about 1.25 mil this year.

Although next year the cap hit will count aound 6.75 mil... the rest of his bonus. I'm not sure how this number came about or if its accurate. But the cap hit next year would be about 2 mil. 6.75 minus his base of about 5... give or take 1/4 mil.

In 2010 his salary would be off the book... saving about 5 mil.

I am not sure if I am in favor of releasing him... Just thought you all would like to know some "rough" numbers.  I'd like to see what he's been doing by himself this off season. See if he can improve against the pass, because he NOW is the weakest link in this secondary.

Give him one more shot in a secondary thats healthy and complete. If he still sux the drop him next year.
