I personally would take Horford, but it might just be b/c I love the Hawks.  I think he is more valuable to his team adding up 25 double doubles to Durants 1.  Heck Horford was this close to averaging a double double.  Another think to keep in mind is Horford played great in the playoffs and played out of position all year long.

Meanwhile, Durant scored 20 points per game, but with low percentage.

One thing I find interesting is that they are the same height.

I think Kevin Durant is going to be a Rashard Lewis type player, not special but a borderline all star. He's got to get stronger or develop his shot even farther to become a more dependable scorer. Shooting 43% from the field, including 29% on 3's, is not going to cut it if he's going to be a go-to scorer. He's not a great passer or rebounder either.

He's got ways to go to develop into the player people thought he was coming out of college.

Al Horford is already a 10 rebound a night type player. He's a Drew Gooden type player (solid player), but his ceiling is closer to Carlos Boozer. If he can develop a go-to move and a mid range jump shot, he could be a borderline all star as well.

If I needed a power forward I'd take Horford, if I needed a small forward I'd take Durant. The Sonics needed a scorer, and Durant gave them 20 a night. The Hawks needed a rebounder, and Hoford gave them 10 a night. They were both very valuable to their teams.

Wow, what office are you running for?  Make a choice.  I think that Horford will be a solid NBA player for a long time, but Durant probably will be a perennial all star.  Pains me to say it, but I would probably take Durant.

Look I know this seems like a reasonable debate but it really is not.  Al Horford is two years older (which were spent on a two time champion Florida Gator team playing with and against NBA talent) and much more physically mature.  Durant is 19 years old and played on a team that had no other good scoring options.  He faced double and triple teams all season and still found ways to score (heck he even scored 22 in a team USA tryout).

When Durant fills out and physically matures, he will be unstopable.  He'll be able to add the post up and power drive game to his repertoir.  Horford was arguably (and I mean arguably) the better player this year, but long term Durant will be a superstar.

By the way, to the guy who said he will be another Rashard Lewis, it took Lewis 7 seasons to have a 20 point a game season.  He didn't even crack double digits his first full season.  This is no Rashard Lewis.  I think Durant is going to be like a Garnett/Dirk Nowitzki mix while Horford is going to be a David West.

Personally, I can see Horford turning into a Patrick Ewing type of guy. He hustles can block shots, strong, and has a decent jump shot. Durant will never be a Garnett, he isn't tough enough and he isn't tall enough. He looks like he will be more of a Tracy McGrady type of player, but I think he will not be as good as him. McGrady can pass the ball way better and has better ball control.
