I have been reading alot about Jackson, and if (BIG IF though) the kid has his head screwed on right, the Eagles stole him at 49.  I would think he will be used in specific pages in the beginning that will get him isolated 1 on 1 with a CB.  With his quickness and speed the CB will have to give him room to operate.

i like the miss matches as well. i've still gotta see two things though: 1) what happens when he gets pressed at the line. how does he handle that. 2) can this dude take a hit... an NFL hit.

throw him some WR screens... give him an end around here and there during the year... send him on deep routes

just don't send him on crossing routes or anything across the middle... yet. don't leave him exposed to a big hit. too valuable in the return game. we need that punt return threat! make teams kick away from him.

I'm excited about having him on the squad. Cant wait to see him burning CBs down the field. I dont know if he is the missing piece to our offense but we will make do. I was looking at his punt return videos and i was amazed. Hopefully he can do the same in the NFL. Lets hope he doesnt turn into a bust.

I'm hoping Jerry Rice showing him the In's and Out's of a West Coast Offense really help him progress as a receiver. We all know what he can do on special teams, but coming in and knowing your assignments on offense is different. He seems like a smart kid and hopefully he'll adjust fine.

DeSean Jackson has the speed, no doubt.  But it takes more than that -- there have been tons of players who had game-breaking speed but were flat-out busts as receivers.

One question that needs to be looked at: if Jackson is such a "deep threat," why did he average just 11 yards a catch his senior year?  That's not exactly stretching the field.

There also have been questions regarding his toughness and his ability to take a hit.  Eagles correspondent and former player Garry Cobb reported that players from his alma mater (USC) told him that they made it a point to try to rough Jackson up a bit on kick/punt returns...and it worked.  After a big early hit, Jackson would go into a shell and became a non-factor.

I guess the Eagles should have consulted with AxeMurderer and Gary Cobb before they drafted DeSean Jackson.  He could have saved us a blown draft pick.  Oh well, too late.

Well Jackson never had a senior season, but I know what you meant. I guess you can compare him again to the guy everyone else has been, Steve Smith. Most would consider him a "deep threat". He's sure got the speed. But with the exception of maybe 2 seasons he hasn't averaged much more than 12 or 13 ypc. Is it the offense they play in? Short passes designed to make them make people miss. Some of those plays go for 50 yards, but most go for 5. That's the nature of the beast. I guess it's better to say he has the "tools" to be a deep threat. Is that better?

why did he average just 11 yards a catch

Not to harp on this, because I'm really not upset about it. But he did average 16 and 18 ypc respectively his other 2 seasons.

Axe~

He had 28 TDs in 36 games, and that is for a Junior.  Almost a quarter of his touches in college went for 20 or more yards.  Again, as a Junior.  In fact, if ya put any stck into ole boy, Kiper had him ranked as "THE BEST Junior WR coming out in the draft this year with a real shot at the Heisman next year IF he stayed in school."  That's a direct quote from the Cal Bear Website.

As far as the press coverage goes, his head coach at Cal, Jeff Tedford, said "his speed is so overwhelming and his hand usage so polished, that CBs that attempt a press are left grabbing air and he's down the filed catching a 20/30 yard pass."  IF the head coach is right and that transfers over to the NFL, this kid is goig to be successful.

I know ALL we know is from college, but the kid looks like, from here, he has IT.

NO, I am not pumping him as the next Owens/Moss/Harrison/Irvin, but the kid looks like he can ball.  We'll have to see if he can "NFL" ball.

If DeSean Jackson plays any significant role in the Eagles passing offense it will really surprise me. He is a very small man. It would take 20 lbs. and two years in the weight room just for him to be as big as Steve Smith.

I think he can do enough on special teams to make an impact on the team. If he can just do a good job of returning punts that will be huge for us.
