Let me just preface this before I start getting all kinds of Cubs fans sending me hate mail... This is strictly meant to be enlightening and humorous. I did not write it, but discovered it on the internet and thought some on here might enjoy it... I also like the Cubs, but am not an avid fan.
20 THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED SINCE THE CHICAGO CUBS LAST WON THE WORLD
SERIES
1. Radio was invented; Cub fans got to hear their team lose.
2. TV was invented; Cub fans got to see their team lose.
3. Baseball added 14 teams; Cub fans got to see AND hear their team lose to more teams.
4. George Burns celebrated his 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th,70th,
80th, 90th and 100th birthdays.
5. Halley's Comet passed Earth... twice.
6. Harry Caray was born... and died. Incredible, but true.
7. The NBA, NHL and NFL were formed, and Chicago teams won championships in each league.
8. Man landed on the moon, as have several home runs given up by Cubs
pitchers.
9. Sixteen US presidents were elected.
10. There were 11 amendments added to the Constitution.
11. Prohibition was created, and repealed.
12. The Titanic was built, set sail, sank, was discovered, and became the subject of major motion pictures... the latter giving Cub fans hope that something that finishes on the bottom can come out on top.
13. Wrigley Field was built and becomes the oldest park in the National
League.
14. Flag poles were erected on Wrigley Field roof to hold all of the team's future World Series pennants. Those flag poles have since rusted and been taken down.
15. A combination of 40 summer & winter Olympics have been held.
16. Thirteen baseball players have won the Triple Crown; several thanked Cubs pitchers.
17. Bell bottoms came in style, went out of style, and came back in style.
There was a song many years ago called "A Dying Cubs Fans Last Request" I think the writer/singer was Steve Goodman(?) If you've never heaed it - look it up on YouTube.....funny, but sad....for a Cubbie.
It's crazy to think about how much things changed during the 20th century. The last time the Cubs won cars were just starting to become common and the Wright brothers had just flown 8 years earlier.
Makes you feel a little better about being an Arizona Cardinals fan, knowing the Cubs have at least 40 years longer of futility.

ouch - that's bad... I'd rather be a Cubs fan than a Cardinals fan. at least the Cubs are the loveable losers. The Cardinals just suck. Not to mention at least the Cubs have been able to smell a WS at their doorstep until they choked and blamed it on Bartman. The closest thing the Cardinals have come to a SB is sitting in the stands as it was held in their own arena.
Sorry if you like the Cardinals, but I can't stand 'em. Due in large part to the frugal Bidwels, but also 'cuz they just suck. They do a great job of hyping and marketing for the team. But when the Cardinals' playoff hopes are halfway over when the pre-season ends.
I will say this, if you haven't been to a Cubs game at Wrigley, go. I went a few years back, it was the most fun I've had at a baseball game. It's a really great atmosphere. And it was a weekday day game. Even though the tickets prices were ridiculous it was worth it.
I loved Tiger Stadium, but I got to go to a game at Wrigley back in the 80's. Middle of August and cold. The atmosphere IS something different....a lot like a large family gathering. And get this, I went back under the stands to use the 'facilities' and who did I practically bump into? Ernie Banks. The really neat thing was that he wasn't surrounded by tons of fans just a few kids. I mentioned it to one of the people I had come with and they said, he was there lots of times....
I was looking for gasoline prices for 1908, but I could not find them.
It's sad that there are so many Cubs fans that have not experienced a World Series title. Luckily, we all got one a few years ago, although it feels like a long time already.
It is amazing how times have changed, and some changes happen so fast.
Since this is a thread about enlightening people about a little history, being light-hearted, and a bit of humor... I thought this was deserving...
I check my ratings every now and then to see what people think.... on this thread I had a rating of 1 by someone... no big deal, doesn't offend me... I figured it was a Chicago Cubs fan that had done as much... nope. Long story short, when I pulled up the user's personal information this is what I saw
Frankly, I thought it was pretty funny. So I guess the enlightening part... when you pick a username, make sure it can handle "R", "P", "AS" and "S" infront of it!
This guy is all over me as well - on the Tiger board.
I use a little less friendly (less optimistic is a better term) persona when posting there. I often talk in the third person and have been pretty negative about the Tiger's front office. Old wad just can't stand it.
like I said, I don't carea bout the 1 rating (it does help my "value" anyhow)... it just looks funny AS Wad... looks too much like as$ wad if you ask me.
