....that this season is only 40 games in, a quarter way done???
I really wanted to post this on the main MLB message board, but I truly can't stand what goes on over there...The Red Sox and Yankees fans over there are ridiculous and there never is a decent conversation there at all...
Right now the Yankees are 19-21 after 40 games, and there should be no panic...They have been hit by injuries, just like last season, and they will be fine..As a matter of fact, us as Yankee fans should be extremely thrilled that we aren't worse than that right now..If you told me we would have injuries to Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada, I would have said we are screwed...Lets not forget about Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy and that disaster so far!!! Oh lets factor in that Robinson Cano and Jason Giambi are hitting well below .200....
With all that, we are still better than last year after 40 games!!! It bothers me so much to see all this panic, when there is still 122 games to go...Thats one long haul and we are only a quarter of the way there!!!!
Not too mention we are 4.5 games out of first...Remember last season when we were out 14.5 games and still made it to the playoffs??? This panic button BS is exactly what it is, BS!!!
I agree with you for the most part but this team should have a apnic button close by. Posada could end up being out for a very long time with his shoulder injury. Losing Posada for Molina impacts the lineup in a big way especially losing Jorges numbers and his switch hitting abilities.
The pitching at the moment is in bad bad shape. As for Hughes and Kennedy they were atrocious just about every start so to expect anything positive from them is unthinkable. So right now the staff is left without a number 5. Rasner has looked good and could hold up the 4 slot. Andy has not looked like a number 2 starter either. A lot of problems with this Yankee team at the moment but it could be worse. Lets get A Rod back and Cano to start hitting and get the ball rolling from there.
I totally agree with everything you said NYs Finest. I am a die hard Yankees fan but what I can't stand is how the Yankees organization and most of their fans hit the panic every time they start of bad or get into a slump. relax. Remember it is not like college where you lose players every year and you can't just pay or trade for players. So there is next year and so on and so forth. I know I'm sounding like a Cubs fan w/ that last statement and I know most people will disagree with me but anyways thats my two cents. They will turnaround and end up well above 500. When every one is healthy and playing up to their potential we should be just fine come September.
Spot on mate. I think its gut wrenching how much Is spent on the yankee's salary every year and we still slack in the most rudimentary departments such as all around bat performance and consistant pitching. Andy Pettitte is my favorite pitcher in baseball and i think its time for my dog to hang up his glove, he's not in it for the game anymore he just wants the paycheck and it shows every time he walks onto the mound.
You make some valid points, however if Kennedy doesn't pitch well today, I am going to get my panic button out and polish it up so it is ready for immediate use.
I havent heard a yankee fan give my Rays any credit for what they have been doing you guys have the highest payroll in the history of the mlb and still cant stay at 500. the rays have one of the lowest payrolls and were leading the division its all about chemistry thats what wins ball games not money i hope steinbrenner could figure that out. GET rid of wash outs like posada and giambi put some young talent there or even a strong average hitter from another team. baseball has become nothing but money now everybody forgot that its about the fun of the game they talk about putting there hearts out for it so they should get payed thats crazy im still playing high school baseball at 17 and the last thing i think about is what will i get if i do good. you get self satisfaction knowing that u played your heart out just because you love playing this game and that you would do anything just to win it all no matter how much you get paid. if gm's would hold out on paying these crazy salaries i gurantee players like A-Rod would still play just because they love it. they all get pampered like little babys so they act stubborn. our whole salary isnt even as much as A-RODS salary and were in first stop paying these babys because all its going to bring is trouble for the team. no mlb player would stop playin just because there not making what they want because if there like me they wouldnt care they should want 2 play just because its there favorite sport. i would die to play in the mlb and i still have a chance im fortunate enough to get that opportunity and i think if they sent all the high paid guys back down and sent the triple a guys up on the Yankees i gurantee they win more just because they have more to prove and they still love the game not the money because there making just as much as my dad and hes an electrician. i can go on forever about this subject but i think we all know whats going to happen if that goes down theres going to be a strike or hold out but in the end if the owners hold there ground they can win alot more games and make alot more money themselves but they waist it all just to pay the idiots who think they should make a killing just for playing there favorite sport.
Wow, how'd they let this guy: DRAYSWHITESOX12, in? We go from a nice conversation about a positive outlook to a mean diatribe about nonsense. The Rays are playing well, but just a few years ago the O's were in first into June and ended up more than 20 out, also with a young upstart team. The point of the post is: it's baseball and the season is long, it's only the quarter pole.
You are 100% right NYs Finest. If we were told before the season that all this would happen in April and May, no one would have thought we would have been this well off. I can't wait until we get A-Rod and Jorge back. Then maybe some of these doubters that claim to be fans can quiet down a little. You got guys like goat6685 that believes it's unthinkable that Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy can be better the 0-5 and a 9 ERA. Are you serious???? If they weren't better then that, they would be in single A. They got off to a rough start, Hughes was hurt... plain and simple. And the you got this Kr1msynn saying Andy Pettite needs to hang it up.... come on now. This is the same "genius" that said, in another thread, Joba Chamberlain is "struggling as a reliever" and "would never make a good starter." Do either one of you guys actually watch baseball???
For all the fairly intelligent Yankees fans, it is April, things have been tough, but we are in pretty good shape, considering. Let's wait until June, July, August until we think of pressing the panic button. This lineup will hit eventually, and the starters won't lose games when they give up 3 runs or less.
you really sound like a girl and mike francesa. get over yourself and realize we don't have a team this year. at least i'm man enough and know baseball enough to understand that. answer me a question mr. know it all. with no pitching, no hitting, average defense and no running game, how we will win games????jet...
I cannot believe it, I just read the first intelligent response by a Yankees fan on this site. It took 5 yrs of ridiculous tard-like posts to get one, but good job Smooth Air
It's not a panic button that need's to be pushed,it's a reality button!! This can't be viewed as any of the other slow starts, because in those past years we knew we had the dominant team in the AL or AL East and sooner or later the other teams would back up as we were getting going. Not the case anymore, not only in AL East but around baseball,so much pairity these day's that the day's of us flipping a switch and storming by people are over. This isn't to say we can't, it's just becoming more difficult every year. Maybe it's not the yank's sucking as much as it is them being the same and others getting better. I tend to think it's a combo of both at the moment,we suck right now and everyone else has gotten better! The other real problem is exactly how this thread was started. "it's only 40 games in" This team has such a problem with their sense of urgency, that's all you hear,"oh it's a long season" yeah you're right guy's,but it's gonna be alot longer this year than it has been in the past if you don't start changing your thought process!!! 1 thing I have to say before leaving, actually vent. Why does Girardi have that shit eating smirk on his face all the time? Honestly, I find nothing humorous about the product he has on the field!!!
