We are 7 weeks into the season. There has been some pleasant surprises like the Rays, Marlins, Orioles, and A's. There has been some major disappointments like the Tigers, Rockies, and Padres.

So at this point in the season what is your teams best or most pleasant transaction from the off season.

As a Mets fan obviously getting Santana was a huge upgrade for this team. However the nicest transaction so far from the off season has turned out to be the Milledge for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider trade.

We all knew that Ryan Church and Schneider were good blue collar players that the Mets needed. But the production on both the offense and defense the Mets have gotten out of them has been a major boost to this team.

Lastings Milledge has a nice upside to him. He can be an all-star some day, but right now this deal has been an absolute steal for the Mets.

Ryan Church has a good chance to be on the All-star team as a RF. He plays great defense, has an above-average arm, and has knocked the cover off the ball for the first 7 weeks.

Schneider has been as advertised defensively. Offensively he doesn't have the power numbers, but when your 8th hole catcher is hitting 300+ you'll take it.

So tell me about your teams pleasant surprise or best offseason transaction and lets discuss.

I'm with you EMTB, Santana will be the bigger prize in the long hual but Church has been better than Milledge on his own throw in Schnieder and that deal bent way toward the Mets so far.

I would say the Haren deal worked out for both parties... Greg Smith and Dana Eveland have been excellent... and Haren has been himself (great)

The Cubs best offseason move was by far the signing of Fukudome.  Although finally parting ways with Mark Prior wasn't too bad either.

Although the Reds have been disappointing Francisco Cordero has not been disappointing. He has not blown a save and the Reds are undefeated when they have a lead after 6 innings (partly becaues everyone could be moved up due to Coco Cordero). Last year the Reds have like 30-35 losses in that same situation. That type of improvement led me to believe the Reds could contend. If they hit....they still might (although the NL Central appears to have a couple of strong teams in the Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, and Astros and the Pirates surprising). The early hole maybe too much for them to overcome.

The improvement of Cordero over Weathers in the 9th inning is huge.

However the contract they gave him maybe too much and too long....who knows.

The Cardinals signing Kyle Lohse was an excellent move to round out their rotation.

Good thread EMTB,

Hmm..Marlins best offseason transaction so far (fingers still crossed)...it's tough to say because there's a few that are like a tie.

I would say (I can't believe that I'm saying this) signing Mark Hendrickson (did I just say that). Look at the stats. I guess Lasik Eye Surgery does work after all.

Signing Jorge Cantu (I actually liked the move when it happened). He's filled the void.

I can't believe that I'm going to say this too. Adding Mike Rabelo, Andrew Miller, and Burke Badenhop with Cameron Maybin and 2 others that are in the minors even though it was for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. Even though Rabelo would still bat 8th on a 12 year old girls softball team, there's no denying his defense help. He does a solid job and he is a vast improvement from Miguel Olivo in that he can actually hold onto the ball when it's thrown to him. Andrew Miller has improved in his last few starts and Badenhop has improved in the last couple too and looks every bit like a Bob Tewksbury type if anyone of you are old enough to remember him. We'll see if Maybin can live up to his potential and if the others can do what the Marlins expect.

Not trading Scott Olsen has worked well. Did he have a brain transplant in the offseason or something?

Not firing Fredi Gonzalez has worked really well too. I will be one to say that understand what he was doing last year. He was basically just observing and has come in on fire this year with the "act like a professional ballplayer" philosophy. You can see that he did learn something when he was at Miami Southridge Sr. High and grew up in the old neighborhood where that is preached as a way of life in sports.

Oh...wait a minute...I just thought of what is by far the best transaction that the Marlins did in the offseason. It was undoubtedly non-tendering Miguel Olivo. That was a huge addition by subtraction. Good luck Royals. He's okay with a bat, but put alot...I mean alot...heck, talk to George Brett because Olivo's glove will need alot of pine tar on it.

I'm a bit torn here. You have Edgar Renteria for Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez, and then you have Joey Devine for Mark Kotsay. The 1st is the best, but I've really enjoyed the Kotsay deal. I was touting it as a strong deal from the day it happened, and it's always fun to have your position proved before you eyes.

From the Twins Livan Hernandez has been a pleasant surprise. And as of Late Craig Monroe has had a good bat.

Delmon Young hasn't exactly panned out in terms of power numbers yet.

So yeah kudos to Livan Hernandez

....a thumbs up and a high five for the Angels....

....garland has been decent....4-3 record ok.....maybe he's not the same pitcher who won 18 games a couple of years back....but with a good offense behind him...he'll win more often than not....

....torii hunter is providing the angels with some pop......interesting that he and vladdy have basically the same numbers.....but he has not been a dissapointment....
