I ask because me and a friend are going... you'll see us in left field above the bullpen in Astros jersey's and hats. Figure that stadium won't be around soon and it appears Lance Berkman will be starting so Im excited, I may catch a home run ball with those seats if im lucky .
Lance Berkman starting? I WISH! He definitely deserves it over any other NL first basemen. But knowing the "fans", they will probably vote in Albert Pujols or Derrek Lee over Berkman, even though neither of them deserves it as much.
Congrats on the tickets! Should be a lot of fun. I went to the 2004 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby, and they are a LOT of fun to attend. Especially in Yankee Stadium. enjoy!
I just can't imagine anyone getting a vote over Lance Berkman so far. He's batting .590 on his current hit streak of 12 games. Guy is tied for the most home runs in the league. has a .390 batting average, stolen a few bases... If someone else starts instead of him im gunna be a bit upset. I voted for him 25 times on mlb.com
Yeah New York will be fun, hope to see some Astros jerseys in the stands...
I know. The guy is tearing it up. Another home run last night! He is definitely the most deserving candidate.
However, I feel like the average "fan" knows nothing of current statistics. It's the one grudge I hold against fan voting. Some fans are very intelligent, understand statistics and pay attention to a player's current stats and use that to determine his all-star status, which would surely merit Berkman, and I would think Tejada (although on a reserve basis behind Hanley Ramirez) on the All-Star Roster. However, there is a good portion of fan voters who will cast ballots by just marking names that they know, and when first base comes around, it's usually Pujols or someone who has a lot more "name recognition" at the position that this fan would go with. That's why I think Berkman has the possibility to get snubbed.
BUT, Berkman will still make the squad. No way that a manager would not make him a reserve if he isn't voted in as the starter. If that were to happen, then I wouldn't be watching the All-Star Game.
Well, lets hope people just watch sportscenter from time to time and look at some of the stats they're throwing out there about his current hit streak. Go Big Puma.
I think he gets more props than we think. He's in good shape to make it from the votes. The bad thing is that he has to continue this the entire time, otherwise he could get snubbed.
If he slumps or if Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder get hot like this... it's over. But, it appears that most pitchers intentionally walk those 2 a lot more than they do to Lance Berkman because of the guy infront of him and behind him. We're raking in the runs with the BLT as they're called.
I've never been to an All-Star Game, and since I didn't even go in 2004 when it was here in Houston, I think it's fair to guess I won't be going this season!
Have fun, though. But don't count on Berkman starting. Starters are determined by fan votes, not by players/managers like pitchers (in which case it would undoubtedly be Berkman, yes), so... Pujols will almost certainly start the game YET AGAIN.
The only way we can change that is to vote for Berkman TWENTY-FIVE TIMES. Everyone in this thread, posting, or just reading/lurking.
Do your Astrosfan duty and vote for Berkman 25 times.
If you're only voting once or twice, as I saw someone say, that ain't good enough. The online form lets you vote 25 times each year. So don't waste a single one.
Yeah, definately vote 25 times. It saves all your selections and you just repeat it 24 times... pretty easy actually Lance Berkman is a beast get his ass in there starting
