I know theres a rule if our AHL team is out of the playoffs we can call some guys up. Any truth to this and who would be called up?

If so: Connor James, Ryan Stone, Alain Naserdine, Nathan Smith, Jonathan Filewich, Ryan Lannon, Tim Brent, Deryk Engelland, Chris Minard, and Alex Goligoski would be guys to look for to called up.

Dont count on any call ups.  The baby pens start the conference finals tonight.  If they win this round they will be in the calder finals.  We could be playing for the cup next week and I doubt we would call up anyone off that team for a few games when they could be heading for the finals also.  I know they could call up players from their AHL team at anytime including the playoffs but there is a roster limit in the NHL.  You carry 20 on the starting lineup but I'm not sure how many else you can carry on your roster as inactives.  I would believe they are pretty close to that limit with all the scratches they have been carrying.

Unless there is an absolute outbreak of injuries ... none of these guys will be called up this post-season.  The Pens already have enough guys in the press box as it is.

What will be real interesting is what happens with Goligoski next season.  He is absolutely tearing up the AHL right now ... playing really well in the playoffs, so he looks like a Letang-in-waiting in that eventually he just won't belong in the AHL anymore ... and that could be next season.  But if he makes the big club, that would give the Pens 4 offensive defensemen ... Gonch, Whitney, Letang and Goligoski.  Gill will definitely be back, and hopefully Shero will be able to re-sign Orpik and Scuderi in that order.  (But alas, most people keep talking about it as a foregone conclusion that Orpik will be someplace else next season.)

Things could become pretty crowded next season with quality "D", but once again, this is another great problem to have.
