I'm with you Cubs2008 - to a point.  If grabbing Edmonds can help out as a temp fix, so be it.  It took me 30+ years to get over Santo going cross town to the Sox!  When I was a kid in the early 70's - I also hated the Expos (anybody in the division - Pirates, Mets, etc.).  So when years later we picked up Dawson, I was livid.  Grace left and I never forgave, Dunston left (who cares) and we couldn't keep R. Ruschel away (sucked WITH Cubs and was star away, go figure).  The rivalry is still strong, but we want results.  Let's see how this plays out first.

Cubs 2008- you wrote:

Wrigley,  it really isen't the fact that he was a Cardinal that bothers me so much.

I suggest you go back and read your opening post again.  That is precisely what you said.  Why are you changing your tune now?  Is it only because you came under so much protest by the respondents?  You're entitled to an opinion Cub2008, but I'd appreciate it if you stuck to just one, and defended your opinion without changing it.  I can't have a logical debate with you if you keep changing your tune.

Now you are telling me that you dislike him for being a hot dog and not a former Cardinal?  Really?  Previously you told me and the other fans that we might as well go root for the Yankees (due to the fact that they cheer for any free agent they bring into town).  Tell me how I misinterpretted that statement?

And to the statment about me not being a real baseball fan.  What does that mean?

It means that according to your original post, you painted yourself as a guy that hates the oposition no matter what they do simply because they are not wearing Cubby blue.  This is why I referred to you as a Cubby "cheerleader" and not a true fan that respects anyone that plays the game the right way.

Do really think I don't know the game or it's players.

No, you probably do know the game and it's players, and it sounds to me that you have plenty of passion.  I like and respect that, but that's the easy part of being a fan.  Being a Cub fan means more- you have to respect the game and everyone who plays it the right way.  Again, I'm not saying that you cheer for them at all, but simply show some class and keep your "boos" to yourself when Cardinals, White Sox, or Brewers make a diving stop up the middle to steal a would-be base hit from one of our own.  Being a Cub fan, in my opinion, means that you cheer with passion (like you have), and a overall appreciation for the play of the game (which you don't appear to have expressed in the messages in this thread).  I hope I'm wrong, but you haven't exactly painted yourself in a "true fan" light thus far.  Passionate-yes, diplomatic- no.

and it was kind of a cheap shot.

You bet your arse it was.  It was as cheap as you telling me and the others to go root for the Yankees because I didn't share the all out hatred you proclaimed for the players on rival teams.

I'll apologize as soon as your can do the same.  It's only fair that you do it first, because you threw the first shot.  I see where you are coming from about hating Edmonds, and I love your loyalty to the Cubs, but show some respect for the players that play the game hard no matter what uniform they're wearing.  Otherwise, you're just as bad as the rest of the drunken idiots I see at the other parks yelling about how they "HATE D-LEE" when he's hitting .340 and entertaining true fans of  both teams.  You get what I'm saying yet? You can agree that we don't want to see any Cub fans being that guy...

I guess to explain myself in depth.  I don't hate eveyone one the Cardinals roster or any roser for that matter.  To me though, like I said in the opening post, their are certain guys who are or should be hated by their rival.  Jim Edmonds is definently one of those guys.  He is a guy who has been their through contravercial times (such as bean ball wars) in this rivalry.  Even if he brings homw a WS MVP for us he will always be looked at as a Cardinal.  In addition to the fact that I dislike him for being a Cardinal I dislike him for being a hotdog.  And yes I understand there are hotdogs on our team too, and I don't like it when they do it either.  With Edmonds though, it's not like he is standing in a batters box watching his home run leave the park.  He actually makes plays look harder than they are just to get on sportscenter.

Once apon a time in sports players and fans use to hate the opposition.  I guess those days went out the door when free agency became more prominent.  I, although only 26 am sort of "old school" in that regaurd I guess.  Agree or disagree, like it or dislike it, I am kind of cut throat fan.  I actually miss bench clearing brawls.  It makes for more passion for the sport, more pride in your team and city, and more comroddery amoungst teamates.  I actually think it is a good thing to have heated rivalry and can't understand anyone who doesn't.  It's just my competitive nature.

I understand this reason for not liking Edmonds, the same reason I didn't like Albert Belle when the Sox got him.

With Edmonds though, it's not like he is standing in a batters box watching his home run leave the park.  He actually makes plays look harder than they are just to get on sportscenter.

Which one bothers you more:

A) A player from the opposing team posing after a HR

B) A player from the opposing team diving for a ball when they don't need to.

Zambrano drilled Edmunds for doing the same thing that Soriano does after every HR.

contravercial times....

although only 26 am sort of "old school"

The "old school" or NO school?

Dont freak out I'm just having some fun.
