Scott Dohmann was designated for assignment today as Al Reyes was removed from the 15 day DL.  Personally, I was upset with this move, and suprised.  I know Dohmann has been poor in his last few outings, but I really think this guy can be a solid middle reliever for a long time.  He pitched very well last year when he got the chance, and personally I am not too fond of Reyes, I really hope Dohmann clears waivers and agrees to being optioned to Durham, I like this guy a lot, maybe because he is the only one in the pen who stepped up last year besides Reyes.  Looking it over though, I guess it is the right move, I thought Birkins would go but his 0.90 ERA in 10 innings is great, so I guess we really did not have any other option.  And Hammel is too valuable to take a chance with waivers, we have 3 lefties in the pen but all of them have done very well.

Do any of you think there is a chance Dohmann will make it to Durham and on another note, do you think there could be a trade involving Al Reyes a little later in the year?

I think it was the right move sending Dohmann down, but there is a chance some team will claim him. And I don't think Reyes will be traded although I'm not too fond of him. Seems like every game I watch with him, he'll come in in the 8th or 9th get 2 strikes on a hitter and I'll think to myself...okay, throw anything but this pitch high in the zone. And guess what he'll do? Yep, I've seen him give up two walkoffs by throwing pitches he has no business throwing. You would think a 60year old reliever would know better than just a 19year old fan, but apparently not.

lets face it someone had to go when Al Reyes got healthy....scott dohmann barely beat out Grant Balfour to make the last spot in the Rays pen..they really didnt have a choice...no one down there has options left and he made the most sense....he may have had a chance to stick but ultimately his last 4 outings were his undoing....i do hope he clears waivers but even if he does he can still choose to become a free agent instead of reporting to durham.....who would you rather send down anyway???? pretty much everyone else has been solid out of the pen this year....its a numbers game...but last year when we sent someone down it was like oh ok...whatever...because the shuttle to durham from the bullpen was pretty busy....its a good sign when you have to send someone down that you really dont want too.....nice job of Dan Wheeler and Troy Percival nailing the Yankees down in the 8th and 9th today...great way to rebound from a tough loss yesterday.....

We didn't have much of an option.  Maddon says he loves the success, but not the decisions this year cuz they just get harder and harder.
