Great win tonight, getting back on track it seems, but Owings shutout 6 inning performance was almost malled with Qualls, Slaten, and Pena all giving up a run.  Our bullpen is making it easy it seems to get runs.  But compliments to Lyon who keeps racking up saves!

I have never cared for Slaten. Every time he comes in for one batter he gives up a base hit it seems. I'm well over the hill and he is standing on the hill and I could do what he is doing?

But,  Pena, as good as he is, had some similar speed bumps last year. Like some hitters, he gets very streaky at times and is either unhittable or brings out a gas can. As for Chad Qualls...he looks tired to me? I feel they are over using him? And remember at season's start how everyone was on Brandon Lyon?...

Here's the deal...Chicago was bitterly cold and I think Melvin screwed up by not allowing his starters to go further as I don't think bringin in our relievers, not being used to that kind of weather, just could not handle it the first time out.

As for last night...the Rockies may be stinking up the farm right now, and I don't care what anyone says,  this is still the most feared line-up in the National League.  Come august and September, when they right their ship, (and I think they will) we will be thrilled to have only given up 3 runs to a team loaded like they are. I think losing badly to the Red Sox last year in the Series, shook their confidence somewhat and they still have not recovered fully.

I agree, I don't care much for Doug Slaten either.  The bullpen needs to get it in gear because the Diamondbacks hitters will not be able to get huge runs every game.  The pitching is and will be the strength of this team.  They can't win with shaky pitching.  So it's nice that the offense was able to cover last night but I would hate to rely on that every night.

I don't mean to disagree with you guys on this one but when Randy Johnson pitched a few days ago and he gave up 4 in 5 innings he handed it over to the bullpen and they gave up 0 runs in the next 5 innings of the game. I'm not able to see much Diamondback games but from that box score it seemed like they did a good job for the Big Unit. I don't know if it was just that one game that they pitched well or if they are on and off sometimes. It seems like every time Randy Johnson pitches and goes 5-6 innings and then hands it over to the bullpen they do a pretty decent job. I'm not disagreeing with you guys at all I'm just saying from the box scores I've seen they havent done that terrible of a job.

Brandon Webb pitched 7 1/3 strong innings tonight. Let's hope the bullpen doesn't blow this one. He will be 9-0 if the bullpen can hold on.

I never doubted Brandon Lyon. He is the only pitcher in the bullpen that has a some closing experience, and I would take that any time.

Cubbie fan..We were ahead in every game during our recent series and we blew every one.

Last night we had a 4-0 lead and barely won 4-3 , with tying and winning runs on base.

Tonight we had an 8-3 lead going into the ninth and before we knew it, it was 8-5, with only 1 out and tying runs on base.

I think we have a good bullpen, but it has been very shaky lately excpet for Brandon Lyon.

Another shakey outing from the bullpen.  I also think that the Diamondbacks have a good bullpen but they really haven't shown it lately.

Medders has been given more than an opportunity to prove himself. He was a gas can last year and more of the same this year. He is a AAA pitcher and that is all he ever will be. They have to send him down when Davis comes back. He had absolutely no pressure on h
