1.  We as a board need to think of a nickname for Jay Bruce.  If hes going to be the big dog in town when he gets here, he needs a good nickname to go with him.

2. Any suggestions for a new Avatar?  To celebrate interleague play, im going to switch from all of the gorgeous ladies to something new.  I have a very powerful friend that im trying to convince into being a Reds fan, but if you have other ideas im all ears.

And while im at it, heres a shameless plug for my glog.  Im going to try and post something every day, so any constructive feedback, and or thoughts are greatly appreciated.  Im still young so im aspiring to be a sports writer so heres my first go at it.

i think we'll probably end up calling Jay Bruce JB.  he has two first names, and i don't know exactly when that started being a cool thing, but it really kind of is.  whenever somebody is named bruce, me and my brother say bruce-bruce with it when referring to the person.  i don't know where my bro got that from, and it's ridiculous, but it's fun to say!    now that i think of it, that's going to be my call whenever he hits a HR!  think that'd go over well if i were a radio personality?

It could definatley work, me and my buddy usually nickname everybody.  I call Joey Votto "JV", Phillips is "BP", Edwin is "Double E" etc. So JB will probably end up being it.

Always lookin' for your glog comments so I'll keep an eye out for your new phrase.  I wouldn't know what to say but I"m sure you'll come up with something.

I call Jay Bruce the Juice or just Juice.  It's the best way I can combine his two first names and make it sound cool.  I know this has been a nick name for others but not on the Reds at least, I don't think.

I like it, Juice sounds good.  Lets just hope that people wont think of steroids when they use it.

Yea I don't think we should be calling an up and coming super star Juice.  That raises to many questions and I guarantee Bruce does not want to be a steroid punch line everytime someone says Juice.

How about "The Bruiser" or just "Bruiser"? It sounds kind of like Bruce and describes the way he tears the cover off the ball.

I personally like interleague play. It gives us a chance to see some AL teams we normally wouldn't get to, and it's only a few series a year.

As for Jay Bruce's nickname? I have a friend named Bruce, and we just call him Goose. I don't know where it came from but it just stuck...

i think that Jay Bruce shouldnt have knicknames like edwin "the error" encarnacion, or bronson "cant pitcho" arroyo. how about something positive for Reds fans?

interleague play:

it takes away the mystique of the World Series and All-Star game.  Before interleague, it was always exciting to see two teams who have not seen each other.  There's also the scheduling that's screwed up now.  Instead of playing the teams that you are competing with, you're playing against different teams that say, the Marlins are going to play in interleague play.  So, it's screwed up when a team who plays the AL east loses the wild card to a team who played the AL central by a game.  I also hate seeing teams who have change strategy in the way they hit and make a lineup because of the DH vs. Pitcher hitting scenario.   Another scheduling issue is that the Reds only come to Atlanta once a year.  I don't care about seeing teams from the AL as much as I do seeing my own team, which is in the same league as the city I live in.  Even if they were in different leagues, I still wouldn't like IL play.

Easy. Abolish the DH! If you hit you should have to field a position too. But that's for another time...

i'll take the other side of that argument rhcp - go ahead and sign up the DH for both leagues.  i used to think the DH took away from the game, from the NL-style "small ball" and management, etc., but i have recently been swayed by other arguments.

Fella, this is completely hypothetical, but what if you had a starting rotation of Micah Owings, Carlos Zambrano, Jake Peavy, Matt Cain, and Dontrelle Willis? They can definitely take their hacks up there. Would you deny them ABs to get the DH ABs? Also if you're going to have a DH, you might as well bring back the Designated Runner too...

I am definitely not for putting the DH in both leagues.  It takes away so much of the strategic side of baseball.  I can't hardly stand to watch AL games because they are so long and boring.
