The Pads are living in the dumpster this year. They seem to have a lack of will and focus. Last year,  they started out the same way but cut off the shackles and won their division. Their trades are ineffective, and their once stellar pitching has become erratic. Hitting is a joke so far this season.

Q: Will the team throw off the L-burden and recover enough to end up in 1st again?

In 2007 on May 15th they were 21-19, this year they're 15-26. The division has improved around them, especially Arizona and Los Angeles. They have no offense, the pitching behind Peavy and Young is a question, and Trevor Hoffman isn't the closer he used to be. I doubt they're going anywhere near the playoffs this year.

tough to say really.  I think if the Padres are looking to contend this year then they'll have to trade for a bat.  Not necessarily someone that'll hit .330, 40 homeruns and 100 RBI (Because quite frankly, will we ever see a player hit those numbers playing half the games at PetCo?)

Chris Young will also have to return to his 2007 form.   Peavy will be Peavy and Maddux will be Maddux.

all-in-all this team isn't off by much,  it just needs the drive to win.  A managerial move may be in order also. i wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Still one of the nicest cities in America, however.  I went to high school in Coronando for a year and didn't realize how good I had it until I left.

ah i clicked post too soon. lol.

I wouldn't be surpised if the Padres have a mini fire-sale if they're still down in the basement come Trade deadline.  It may also be a wise move on their part.  Trade off the players of today for the prospects that will be the stars of tomorrow.  It works for Florida. lol

When pigs fly they will because Arizona is too good of a team to let the Padres overtake them In 1st.
