as shown in today's game and the game two days ago, we need to find a strong closer, right now this is the only thing that is wrong with our pitching, if we get a strong closer we may become unstoppable

The tribe is paying Kobatashi 6 million (or something like that) he has over 200 saves in Japan . I say give him a shot at the job . Put Benancourt back as set with Perez . And when Joe B. is healthy again trade him to the Brewers for a pack of gum

I agree that Kobayashi should be given a shot.  I was never a fan of giving Betancourt the role.  He's a setup man, leave him there.  When JoeBo comes back it's his job.....now if he continues to struggle then and only then does he lose his job.

Also Kobayashi isn't making $6M this year.  It's more like $3M (6M was for 2 years).

Man, you just don't give up on Borowski do you? He has been the worst excuse for a closer I have witnessed in years. The save is the most over-rated of stats. Give up two runs with a three run lead? Save. 18.0 ERA for the game? No biggie. Borowski needs to be given his unconditional release. He isnt bad, he's awful. He's what 37? 5.07 ERA last year, but look at those save totals! How many blown saves? Was he the leader in that catagory too? If not, he was close. BRING ON THE HOT DOG EATING CHAMP!

I think Betancourt could have closed games last year. He's just not pitching well this year. He wasn't pitching well before he was moved to the closer role. If JoBo comes back and is healthy they seem set on giving him a shot to reclaim the role. Saves may be an overrated stat, but they are the only thing that really matters to a closer. JoBo's 5+ ERA last year was terrible, but his save percentage was about 85% which falls into the "Pretty Good" category. I think 90%+ is considered excellent. If JoBo proves to really be finished it looks like Masa will be the next option. I can see him getting a few chances between now and when JoBo comes back. I like the fact that he's an experienced closer. He's also been the best guy in our pen this year. I like the idea of him closing with the Raffy's setting up. This essentially just means we traded JoBo for Masa in our pen from last year and kept the rest the same.

Borowski led the AL in Blown saves last year with 8. He also had 7 more save opportunities than anyone else. Thats how he came to lead the league. Joe Blow is an apt nickname. Knowing Wedgey, Joe will be back as the closer, and back to giving up leads in the ninth soon. Betancourt is not the answer either. He was 3 for 6 in save opportunities last year. Hot Dog Time! Just think about the promos we could have. Milwaukee has the Brat Races, we could have "The Champ" chase them around the park biting at them. Fun Stuff.

Freethinker, I give you 5 stars on the avatar alone- funniest show on TV and Petard was a top 10 episode (Although the babe in your previous avatar was smokin).  Hermie- You are right about so many things but Joe Blow is not one of them.  Give the gig to KOBAYASHI -  Joe BLOWS way too many save opportunities.

Borowski led the AL in Blown saves last year with 8. He also had 7 more save opportunities than anyone else. Thats how he came to lead the league.
Let's compare his save pct to some other closers around the league.....

Borowski.....85%
Rodriguez....87%
Jensks..........87%
Jones........86%
F. Cordero....86%
Hoffman.......86%

O and in his 53 save opportunities......the Tribe's record in those games?

49-4.......that's a .925 winning percentage.  Yeah......sooooo terrible
.

Has he been bad this year?  YES.  If he comes back from the DL and continues to struggle to you remove him?  YES.  But he gets his shot.  He didn't blow a save in the playoffs (yeah gave up a run and made it interesting).  The bullpen works much better with Betancourt/Perez/Lewis in setup roles and JoBo in the closers role.  Could Masa take that over eventually?  ABSOLUTELY.  But when JoBo comes back it's his job.

JoBo is far from an ideal closer.....but if he can get the job done then he deserves the job.  He'll most definately be on a very short leash though especially with how well Masa has been pitching lately.  I wouldn't be shocked if he's the come the All-Star break.  But saying JoBo is the worst closer ever is ludacris.

Not worst ever, but the worst I have seen for the Tribe in years. The Tribes record in games where Joe blows a save has what to do with his pitching exactly? How does his blowing eight saves (League High), yet us winning four of those games have anything to do with him? Did he swing the bat in any of those games? No? he had nothing to do with those wins other than blowing the lead. The fact we came back means our bats were good. Joes bad. Real Bad.

you said it (what i've also said on here many times) WyomingDan. if he comes back and blows a few more saves, those few might cost us the division. why not let Bush run the country a few more years and then replace him if he doesn't get better. yeah, real good then. other teams get fed up quick with their closers- i.e. Fuentes last year, Turnbow the year before, that rookie on the Dodgers two years ago. Fuentes was horrible for about 4 or 5 outings and then Manny Corpas was nearly perfect last year all the way through the world series. anyone who defends borowski must be related.

I don't feel good about this at all!  The Tribe lost 2 in a row to the Reds that they should have won if they had a good offense or good relief pitching. The Tribe is near the worst in majors with 7 blown saves!  The starting pitching is tops in the majors but if they only had their bullpen pitching like they did last year!  The Tribe has lost about 10 games this year so far due to bad pullpen appearances. The rest of the loses except for maybe 2 were because the Tribe forgot to bring their bats to the ballpark.
