Maybe someone can explain to me why Cubs fans boo all the time now.

They booed a guy who just joined the team for making an out with the bases loaded in a game they were already winning 4-0.

I don'tlike the fact that Edmonds made an out.  I don't like Jim Edmonds.  But I'm sure as hell not going to boo him for it.  Its counterproductive.

And I don't want to hear this 100 year BS.  That a cop out for fans who want guys to get a hit everytime up or get every batter out and never give up any runs.  Its unrealistic expectations from people who don't seem to understand baseball.

Booing for lack of hustle is acceptable and I encourage it.  Booing for continual bad play is - while counterproductive - is at least understandable.  Booing because a guy makes an out in a game where your team is WINNING 4-0 and in first place is preposterous.  It's a new low.

Cubs fans are startign to piss me off and I"m one of them!

I agree with you.  I don't like it either unless it is for lack of huslte.  Except in the case of Jim Edmonds.

I saw that alot last year too. When Alfonso or Derrek would bat and they would ground out or something with NO outs and NO men on base, then we would start to boo like crazy. It pissed me off too.

What else is really annoying is the bipolar behavior of the fans at games. They give Edmonds a standing ovation coming to center field, go nuts after his first hit, then boo him rest of the game with every out. I think this also has a parallel with Fukudome's hype. Dont get me wrong, I love the guy and I think hes helped the Cubs tremendously this year so far but do you think the craze about him would be this elevated if he didnt hit that game tying 3 run homerun on opening day? Yes he has a high average and gets on base a lot but hes not necessarily that exciting of a player. It feels like Cubs fans are just looking for something  to show their emotions for be it positive or negative. Just my thoughts.

I can't stand the booing, either. I think it's horrible to boo your own team's pitcher *especially* if he is struggling, or the batter who has fallen into a slump--- and booing, in my opinion, only makes it worse.

That being said, however, I fully recognize the urge of Cubs fans to boo Jim Edmonds. He was with the Cardinals, for goodness sake...one of the top three teams, if not thee top team, Cubs fans despise. It wasn't all that long ago Edmonds blasted a dinger out of Wrigley and stood there at home plate watching the ball fly out, showing up Carlos Zambrano. Big Z, being the calm good natured guy that he is out on the mound, sent Edmonds flowers the next time he came to bat. lol

Jo, I am with ya on this one.... i have been very critical of the Cubbie faithful for the same reason for the past year an a half. I feel that Cubs fans expect every player on the team to be an all star caliber player, and if they are not then they are basically said to be worthless. Case in point, Ryan Dempster.... the guy would come in an finish games off as the closer, he'd do his job and get the save. Heck one day he did the whole 1-2-3 inning, but on Cubs talk radio after the game, everyone called in complaining about Ryan Dempster because the three outs were fly balls to the outfied. Apparently getting the 3 outs were not good enough for the fans, I guess a closer has to come in and throw 9 pitches and record 3 strikeouts in the 9th inning to be succesful according to Cub fans.

Frankly if i were the fans of another team, I'd hate us too. 90 percent of the Cubbie faithful is completely ignorant of the game of baseball. The probably don't even realize that the diference between a good hitter (.300 avg) and a avg hitter is (.250 avg) only 1 more hit every 20 AB's and they probably  think a good hitter should go 10 for 20 instead of 6 for 20 on avg. Hints why they boo even when out best hitters make outs. Think about it, good hitters fail way more than they succeed, because about 14 times out of 20 official AB's they make an out. Yet to Cubbie nation, this failure rate is unnacceptable.

Booing Carlos Zambrano last year pissed me off.  Regardless of his struggles, Big Z was busting his butt last year.  Booing Bob Howry after blowing the save against Colorado was disrespectful especially since he's busted his butt as a Cub.  Asking to trade Soriano, because he happens to be the highest paid Cub.  Getting on D-Lee because he was 2 - 19 in the series is a bit surprising.  Wanting to trade Wuertz because he's been struggling, is shocking.  Aramis doesn't hustle on a groundout to the pitcher so lets trade him.  Asking to trade our entire farm for Erik Bedard or Tim Hudson when it's highly unlikely that'll happen.  Those things tick me off about Cub fans.  Getting on the proven players with great tracks records for doing what every baseball player does--slump.

Am I surprised they booed Jim Edmonds?  Not at all.  As noted on these boards, alot of fans were not happy with the Jim Edmonds signing, so they let their frustrations be known.  Does it make right?  No.  Lets be honest, do 80% of the people that go to ball games actually know what's going on?  No.  If and when he does come up with a game winning hit or something along those lines; these birds will change their songs.  That's what fair-weathered fans do.  I personally blame Greg Maddux.  If he didn't throw that ball in the dirt which bounced right back of the wall to get Aramis Ramirez at the plate then Jim Edmonds would've drove in a run and the Cubs would've applauded him.

A guy "fails" to get a hit six times out of ten is still a good hitter.

A team that loses 40% of their games can probably still make the playoffs.

Wrigley visitors (I refuse to call them Cub fans), relax a little bit.  It's okay.

I was sick to my stomach hearing that Jim Edmonds was going to be one of my Boys in blue.  How could Hendry bring one of the most hated players in recent years to the North side.  Whats next AJ Piersinski?  Anyway that being said Edmonds is now one of the good guys and I would love nothing more than for him to find his stroke and be able to contribute to our already potent offense.  If it doesnt work than nothing lost.
