I don't buy it, but I can see it happening and saw it happening for a while. The second I learned who Matt Holliday's agent was, I knew the Rockies were going to have a huge problem keeping him around. Colorado's front office needs to realize that any team that has success for them is going to be built on offense, not pitching.
Though I must say, I live down here in Colorado Springs and see Ian Stewart play on an often basis and he could be a capable replacement out in left field if needed, though of course we can't expect another Holliday to be rolling around right away.

Holliday must stay. Seldom does a player come along with the power of this guy. Just listening to the sound he makes hitting the ball and you realize just how unique he is. The last time I heard that sound was Larry Walker. I you make a trade then Helton would be the logical choice. Management will be sorry if they deal #5.
Tulowitski's injury really hurt. The kid is a leader in the clubhouse as well as on the field. And then there's the defensive hit.The Rox have to start playing a different brand of ball- moving runners around and stop playing for the long ball. Francis is pitching like a robot and teams have figured him out. Change and adjust. I still have faith.

I will be pissed if they trade Holliday or Helton! You had better be getting a Derek Jeter, A-rod, or a Manny Ramirez in return if you even think about letting Holliday go! and as for Helton, he has been the face of the franchise for over a decade now! If they trade Helton, I think I will actually stop following the Rockies!

Here we go, not alot going on in baseball right now so writers like Rosenthal think they have the inside line on a great story. Hopefully the Rockies will put together a good winning streak and he will go somewhere else and create rumors. I do wish Holliday had a different agent though, because anyone who follows sports knows how Boras can be. Next I don't think they are playing for the long ball. Last year they hit .280 with RISP and this year it's .223. They just are not putting the hits together at the right time. Like Hurdle said last night "these guys are carry alot more than just the bat on their shoulders when they come to the plate". They need to relax and forget they are the defending NL Champs and just go out and have fun playing ball. COME ON ROCKIES WE DO BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!!!

I think trading Atkins or Fuentes is more realistic for this season. Atkins probably won't be signed long-term to make room for Stewart so this makes sense. Fuentes is in the last year of his contract (I think) and is making a ton of money for a setup guy. The Holliday trade probably won't happen until next season, if at all.

It seams like when a team is going thru a tough period people or so called journalists like Rosenthal. Try to make things up as they go start rumors just to get their name on a story! Personaly I wont belive it until the Rockies org. says so. Now watch espn and other sports outlets will say sources told me. I have seen it over and over and you know it wont stop with MATT. This is just BULL****.

It will be sad even for Padres fans if Holiday goes. He IS the Rox...One of the best things about watching these two teams play is seeing if the Pads pitching can keep this monster under control.
Rockies seem to operate similar to Padres as far as player contracts. They can't really afford the Derek Jeter or Manny Ramirez kind of contracts.
Overall, I guess I'll trade quality of life (living in Denver or San Diego) instead of living where the local MLB team can spend like drunken sailors on shore leave.
Good luck Rox fans...Come-on-football

I for one buy what Rosenthal is selling. Rockies are underachieving right now, and if they don't turn it around soon, I think they have no choice but to move Holliday. Boras is the biggest dirtball agent in the game, and wants a contract similar to Helton's (which was way, way too long), Hleton is on the downside of his career and we got him for at least 4 more years. At this point, they need to resign Fuentes, as Corpas cannot close at this point in time, get a couple of major league players for Holliday and think about next year.
Oh, but wait, they just signed Glendon Rusch. Forget all I said above, and start getting playoff tickets now.

It's been a while since anyone has posted here, but now I am hearing that you could put money on Holliday being elsewhere (LA is being thrown around) before September 1st. That leaves Ian Stewart in Left field and a very unhappy Garret Atkins. Trading Holliday sends a message to Atkins...'Hey G, we really don't plan on locking you up long term either". I heard the phrase "Todd and the toddlers" starting to get air-time again when this subject comes up. I hope we don't do the one step forward, two steps back thing here this year.

Todd and the Toddlers-real cute. When half of your starting line up is on the DL you have no choice ,but to bring up the younger players from the minors. Holliday would not be sent to a team within the same division. I don't think he is going anywhere and he will get the deal he deserves with the Rockies.

It's been a rough year to be sure, but I sure hope this is just a rumor. Given the current state, I'm already looking forward to next year.
With Helton's production beginning to decline, the Rockies do need another franchise player with power. I don't think Tulo fits that category. So, that leaves Holliday or Atkins. I would prefer it to be Holliday.

I know this is only a rumor, but if it was real, I would be torn. On one hand I would hate to see Holliday (or anyone) go, because he is the (real) defending NL MVP and an outstanding hitter. On the other hand, it might be better for the franchise if they can get good prospects for Holliday. If last year was truly a fluke, and the Rockies won't have success with this group again, then they could do what the Marlins did and rebuild. The Rockies have a great farm team so they could be competitive again pretty soon.

To be honest with you if things continue to go south I see Atkins being traded with Stewart playing 3rd. Can get good players in return for Atkins . Holliday will get his contract with the Rockies. Just a guess of course.

I think ultimately Holliday will resign with them. The Rockies need a face of the franchise as Helton isn't going to be around forever. Keeping Holliday means they get someone that they can market effectively who is a top producer. I see the Rockies much more likely to trade Atkins and get a #2-#3 starting pitcher in return.
