WTF ??

That's exactly what YOU were saying in 1/2 your other posts!  I think the term you used was "same components".  It's illogical to change your argument when your posts are still visible

Exactly what I was saying?  hmmmm let me think

Other components is code for artificial eye......????

The artificial eye comment was from another poster....wow goodnight....

WTF??

Good old Floyd Zeppelin trying to tell us what's what in a logical(cough!), well thought out(cough, cough!!) argument. Too bad he can't spell and yet has the audacity to tell others to go to night school and get a TUTOR.

The ruling states that the gentleman from South Africa does not enjoy any advantage over good old muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones.

He still has to meet the qualifying mark standard.

Consider for a moment, how difficult it is simply to walk using a pair of leg prostheses, let alone try to run. That he has worked hard to reach the level of excellence he has is nothing short of miraculous.

To state that a person is wrong simply because he is in the minority has never heard of Nelson Mandela of South Africa, who turned the tide on racial apartheid by the courage of his convictions. Kind of like the notion that  everyone "knew" that the world was flat until an enlightened person demonstrated to the crowd that the world was, indeed,  round.

All Mr. Pistorius is doing is attempting to end athletic apartheid. I say good for him. Let's see what he can do.

This is clearly a touchy subject. damned if you do damned if you don't sort of things.

My opinion is that he should be allowed to compete with a prosthetic that does not improve upon the normal gait of humans. If he wore a normal prosthetic with just a knee and ankle joint I think it would be more then fair. To use a prosthetic that provides propulsion thought doesn't seem in the spirit of the Olympics. What if a runner used a special shoe that provided extra spring (I'm not talking Nike shox here, everyone that's an athlete knows they are crap) What if a high jumper put springs in his shoes. Its an unfair advantage to the others. A similar ruling went against that golfer a couple years ago when the PGA ruled that walking the course instead of a cart was part of the game. Walking 72 holes over a couple days has to be harder then a cart.

I support para-Olympics whole heatedly. I wish I had courage and heart that some of them have, but it just isn't the same. There is a reason there is a wheel chair division at marathons... its a different animal.

Hi, all!

Some of you guys are complete idiots. This guys has NO LEGS! At least not human legs. If anything he is at a DISADVANTAGE.

He is one of a million amputees that's made it this far, he hasn't even QUALIFIED yet, let alone medaled. Calm down, people. The dude is running on a pair of stilts.

Let the dude have his moment. It's the freakin' olympics. The guy could gold medal, and would probably trade it for his real legs in a heartbeat.

"Jetpacks on wheelchairs"....that was a good one.

And Casey Martin raised all that fuss for nothing. Martin sucks, he's not good enough for PGA golf with 1, 2, or 3 legs. He could drive 2 carts and have someone else golf for him and he still wouldn't make the grade. It's not his condition, it's his game.

Anyhow, back to topic, I doubt this ruling is the start of Holy War or armageddon.

Montana to Rice, I am out.

By the logic you are using, the "slap" skate used in speedskating sould be banned. Maybe we should ban shoes, too. Didn't the Athenians run their races barefoot and nude? Guess we'll have to ban shirts and shorts and socks and jocks, too!

Thank you for the comment on the logic...at least something may have been accomplished....

But I am not sure you are following any of my "logic"

artificial legs versus real legs..NO

artificial arms versus real arms...NO

Approved artificial parts: anything that does not give the competitor an unfair advantage.

Examples:  ears, nose, fingers, eyes, toe nails, lips, tongue...parts that are not used in competition....Now if the ears, nose, fingers..etc...would be used in competition..then yes, they would be banned.  Nobody is against people competing that have artificial limbs, however, they should have their own games.  Am I empathetic..most certainly...but not at the cost of fair competition.
