I'm going to play the Devil's advocate here, so no personal attacks. Why can't all sports leagues make these drugs legal?  If it makes the players stronger and faster, wouldn't that make the games more exciting?  I would like to see more sensational plays made it all sports.  If it takes these drugs to deliver them, what's the harm.  Players are adults, and they should be able to decide if they want to put these harmful drugs into their systems or not. As far as records, the players would have to realize that if they opt to take these drugs, then they also forfeit the chance to have their names in the record books. Some players don't care about getting in the record books.  They just want to give the best performance and make the most money they can while they are playing.  What's wrong with that? (and don't give me the role model for kids crap)

Any thoughts?

Health risks.

Granted, playing pro football is a big risk on its own right. But we still don't want the players to harm themselves with steroids.

As a father of two children that look up to pro athletes I take offense to your statement saying don't give me the role model excuse. What gives a pro athlete the right to use a illegal drugs ?

I said the players are adults and they should be able to decide for themselves.  It's their choice, it shouldn't be mandated.

These drugs are legal.  They are only illegal in the sports world.  I'm saying what's wrong with letting the player choose if they want to use them or not.  Didn't you read the post?  If you did you would also have seen my request to not give me that BS 'role model' excuse.  Let me tell you something, YOU should be the role model for YOUR KIDS, not some athelete that they don't even know. That's why I asked for people like you to not bring it up. It's total BS.  If your kids are so weak minded that they blindly follow the lead of some athelete on TV, then you have to change your parenting skills.

Your claim of legal drugs is wrong. They are not legal in professional sports. This argument is not valid. I guess the 'adults' can cheat too, since that was a rule. The moral is if its a rule/law don't break it or pay the consequences. Barry Bonds is finding out that 'not telling the truth to the feds' is a big no-no. Good luck Barry. As far as role models they are like it or not, society as a whole is trying to teach our future generations that as long as your end goal is reached its ok to do anything to achieve it. This is a very harmful lesson.

This will give players  very, very bad incentives.

Think if it got to the point where most players were taking steroids,  you'd be putting yourself at a competitive disadvantage by NOT taking steroids.  We don't need players thinking they have to take steroids to get to the competitive level.

I'd rather see the NFL police take care of the scumbags more than worry about steroids!
