I think he won the MVP when Gossage was a rookie playing on the same team. He was gone before Mattingly and only faced Brett.

If asked the best he ever faced I would be shocked if he did not say G. Brett.

 

Allen had a terrific bat but quickly wore out his welcome everywhere he went. He had a similar attitude to Belle and the big Skirt.... no wonder you like him.
