What does Cardinal Nation think about Chris Perez's debut.

I think it's just what the doctor ordered, it is just a different feeling when you know some guy throwing 98mph with some confidence is coming out of the bullpen. Winning two games in the last at bat can get a team back in the groove. Welcome aboard Chris Perez, and thanks.

GO CARDS!

He's looked poised in his first two appearances with the big club.  And I've heard that poise is a real strong suit of Chris Perez.

I didn't get to see his 1st appearance but I saw today's.  He made it look easy.  I think it took him 5 pitches to get 3 outs.  Two were lazy fly balls to the outfield and one was a foul pop to Albert.  He did look very poised.  Perez throws some serious heat and has pretty good movement on his pitches.  Just seems like he has been in the majors for awhile just by seeing the way he handles himself.  I'm excited to see if he can keep this up and be successful.  GO CARDS!!!!!

He looked comfortable that is for sure, and it's his slider that is unhittable.  The movement is crazy.  He is our Joba Chamberlien for sure, minus the fact Joba will be a starter and Perez a solid closer.  I am excited about the pitching coming to us after the break too.

Chris got another chance last night and looked good.  He gave up a walk but no damage was done.  I love seeing the gun reach 95-96 every pitch.  When you are throwing it that fast you can get away with a mistake of throwing it down the middle sometimes.  I know Chris has only thrown 3 innings which is a small compilation of what he can do but I think this kid is up to stay.

I would not mind seeing us trade Izzy close to the trade deadline to some American league team that needs a closer/bullpen upgrades.  We could get some young pitching or hitting prospects and move Perez into the closer's role.  Wainright did pretty well, when they placed him in the role of closer and I think Perez would do just as good.

I think you have a great idea Hooper.  But for us to be able to trade Izzy he would have to wave his no trade claus.  And we will not be able to get anything for him unless he comes back from the DL and starts producing.  No one wants a closer whose era is 8.00.

I know Chris Perez hasn't given up a run, since his era is zero. But has he even allowed a hit? None that I know of. What I'd like to see them do is rotate Chris and Ryan Franklin at the closer spot, giving both guys a chance to get some saves. It seems like Tony wants Chris to get a little more big league experience first, however. pipe

You guys can stop being delusional about Izzy. NOBODY WANTS HIM, nobody wants his contract, nobody wants to give up prospects or even anything of value, and nobody wants declining veterans who are on there last leg.

As far as Perez. DO NOT MAKE HIM THE CLOSER. And TLR is smart enough to know this. Hes pitched is a handful of games. Wainwright set up for an entire season before becoming "the guy." And second, the 7th and 8th are just as important as the 9th so the order of when you pitch isnt that big of a deal, no need to add any presure to a guy that has only pitched in 3 games and has 1 month of AAA experience let alone major league.
