Jacque Jones is close to becoming a Marlin.

Negotiations between the Marlins and Jones' agent, Damon Lapa, are in "advanced discussions."

Released recently by the Tigers, Jones would provide the Marlins with a veteran outfielder, who can factor into the center-field mix. Jones also has experience leading off.

Jones played in 24 games with the Tigers this season before the left-handed hitter was designated for assignment on May 5. He was released on May 13.

A career .278 hitter, Jones has appeared in 1,284 games and he has 165 homers and 1,268 hits.

I hope this deal gets done soon before our next game following the off-day monday. This team desparately needs a true CF out there that can help this team offensively and defensively. It is truly important to get this guy in especially if the team continues to refuse to call up Cameron Maybin as well as Alejandr De Aza still hurt.

Also, if Fredi refuses to make Cody Ross the #1 CF until the latter happens, then Jacque Jones needs to be acquired ASAP... I am just afraid of what it may cost us, though I would not mind if it cost us The Unamazing Alfredo Amezaga.

Let me be clear about Alfredo Amezaga- I am not saying I don't like the guy, nor that I really want him to be traded.

What I am trying to say is that the current role he has with the team is not for him, and for that reason he is struggling along with the rest of the team. Alfredo is not a lead-hitter, he is better suited for the bottom of the lineup. Alfredo is not a CF, he is an infielder and nothing more. The guy is not as versatile as the team makes him out to be, he was not in such role while Joe Giradi was in charge, not surprising to me that it was Fredi who has led people to believe his current role with the team is to our benefit.

Alfredo can not hit the ball pass the infield, he swings at the worse of pitches, he has not patience. defensively, he has speed, but not the size to cover the most crucial and difficult position in the game (CF).

The guy is just worth starting, he is oustanding off the bench but nothing more. I don't mind him spelling Cody Ross. But with that said, it only makes sense for the team to make Cody the #1 guy on the depth chart and the guy they throw out there on the daily basis and make Alfredo the guy to back him up, not the other way around as it has been to this point.

Again, I am not complaining because this team is still atop the division and playing well, but for the long-term benefit of this team-- this is a move that needs to be made immiediately and  a move that should have been made a while ago as I mentioned.

I don't understand myself why Fredi doesn't make Cody Ross the everyday CF. And I don't understand why Brett Carroll doesn't get a shot at any kind of playing time. He has a rocket arm and he had like 9 home runs in Albuquerque.

I don't like the idea of the Marlins signing Jones.

And I disagree with Pablo  Amezaga probably is the best fielding outfielder (as well as infielder)  he just doesn't have an outfielders arm like Brett Carroll does.  Luis Gonzalez has a weak arm too and Jeremy Hermedia (dot com) has a good arm but his glove sucks.

Yeah I actually agree with everything you just said, for the most part.
