This team just doesn't have much to hang your hat on.  I think it's time to dump Sheffield.  He is killing us, since he can't play the field and he can't hit.  Why is he in the lineup?  I know he will cost the team many millions over the next 2 years, but this team needs help right now.  The Yankees were way under .500 last year in May and turned it around, but what player on this team can put the Tigers on his back and carry them like A-Rod did for the Yanks?  Or like Jeter can?  There is none.  The Tigers need to call up Hessman and play him a third every day.  He has a great glove and won't lose games defensively like Guillen does regularly, and he already has like 20 HRs this year.  Hessman hitting .220 with about 10 homers is a great improvement in the lineup over injured, no-field, .180 & 1 HR Sheffield.

Agreed, that we have no big time name to carry the team.  Mags would be the closest that I can think of.  He isn't pulling the huge numbers like he was last season, but he is still having a good year.

I agree that Shef needs to shut it down.  He  just can't do what we used to do.  He is too injured to get his swing back.  If he were healthy, that is one thing.  But, if his options, in his words, are surgery or retire, and he would choose retire, that tells you he needs to hang it up.  Hessman is a good choice, and there was another guy, too, I can't remember his name, but I heard him talked about as a good young guy to help out.  Guillen needs to stay at first.  He is still agood switch hitting power threat.  Maybe release Shef and let Guillen become the DH.  If his knees are that bad, let him just hit.

I think, if we can claw somes wins and get within site of the top, when Rodney and Zuumer come back, it may give a boost to propel us into a winnging streak.

It's true about Sheffield.  I think he can turn it around in the next month though.  He has a lot of experience  and knows how to adjust his swing.   He bats better when he is in left field than when he is the DH.  The Tigers need to call up Hessman and send Joyce back down.  Sure he is doing ok right now but look what happened to Thomas.  What about Mags?  You know that guy who was the MVP runner up last year.   If you don't want Guillen put Inge in.  He has gold glove potential.  His batting is maybe a little below average.  But that's ok. He can hit for power too.  It was fine when the tigers made it to the World Series so it's good now.  The Pitching is getting better now but they can't get any run support.  So when they fix there bats you'll see the Tigers compete for there division.

A. Why hasn't he adjusted his swing already? What is he waiting for?

B. He can't play left field. Leyland said his shoulders won't allow it.

Well he went back to his old bad techniques due to the suffering offense.  They need to beat up on some teams so he can fill save to try out his new ways.
People play hurt  a lot these days.  He can lie like the rest of the players do.  I was just saying he has better stats in left than in DH.

Tigers1fan, are Gary's stats better in left field based on life time stats?  Which would mean most of his at bats in Left Field were in his younger days as opposed to his at bats as a DH which have been in the twilight of his career.   Just curious.
