Right-hander Micah Owings can make it two straight wins tonight when the Arizona Diamondbacks head east to Dolphin Stadium to open a three-game series with the host Florida Marlins.
Owings was 4-0 with a no-decision in five starts in April, but had opened May with a loss and a no-decision before rebounding with a strong effort against Colorado on May 14.
In that game, the 6-foot-5, 220-pounder allowed five hits and recorded five strikeouts in six scoreless innings of what wound up as a 4-3 Diamondbacks victory.
It also lowered the 25-year-old's earned run average from 4.33 to 3.81 in 49 2/3 innings.
Owings has made one career start against Florida, allowing six hits and four runs while getting a no-decision.
For the Marlins, lefty Mark Hendrickson tries to avoid a third straight start without a win.
The 6-foot-9 Washington native was 5-1 in his initial seven starts of 2008, but has since gotten a no-decision and a loss while allowing 15 hits and five runs in 9 1/3 innings over two outings.
He was tagged for eight hits and four runs in five innings most recently, dropping a 5-3 verdict to the Cincinnati Reds on May 13.
Hendrickson has made seven career appearances - four starts - against the Diamondbacks, going 3-1 with a 3.49 ERA in 28 1/3 innings.
On Sunday in Miami, Jose Guillen homered and drove in four runs as Kansas City downed Florida, 9-3, in the rubber match of a three-game interleague set.
Mike Jacobs belted a solo home run for the Marlins, who have dropped five of six games. Jeremy Hermida and Dan Uggla each chipped in with an RBI.
Burke Badenhop (1-3) was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in just three innings en route to the loss.
In Arizona, Randy Johnson threw seven shutout innings, and Mark Reynolds went 3-for-4, as Arizona took a 4-0 victory in the rubber match of a three-game interleague series with Detroit.
Johnson (4-1) was efficient in scattering six hits, walking one and striking out five on 98 pitches. He also notched career victory 288, and tied Tommy John for 25th on the all-time list.
Chris Young hit a double, walked and drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks, who have won five of six.
Arizona won six of its seven meetings with the Marlins last season.
