Here we go.  6-1/2 games back, and the Tigers find themselves facing the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park.  A battle of teams trying to get it together before their deficits become too large to overcome.  This is the time for the Tigers to pounce.

Detroit is 17-27, and Seattle 18-27.  Justin Verlander (1-7  6.05 ERA) faces off against Carlos Silva (3-2  4.17 ERA).  For the season, Silva has given uup 11 walks to Verlander's 24.  Verlander has struck out 33 and Silva 24.

In comparing the 2 lineups, both have had their struggles at the plate.  Hitting under .200 for the past 7 days, Curtis Granderson is at .190 and Ryan Raburn at .143.  For the Mariners, the past 7 days have seen more struggles.  Kenji Johjima is batting .190, Jeff Clement .182, Richie Sexson .182 and Yuniesky Betancourt .176.

A three game series in Detroit, time for the Tigers to start putting it back together.

Even old negative Iffy didn't think we'd be fighting for last place in the AL.

I sure hope Gary Sheffield is in the lineup today. My favorite play in baseballs is the lazy fly ball to left or the slow grounder to short. Sheff never fails to disappoint .

Tigers win!!  Justin Verlander has a decent outing, with his cumulative ERA dropping, yet again, to 5.61.  Great to see Curtis Granderson and Edgar Renteria getting involved with some offensive production as well.

Is JV back?  Superb outings his last two starts, though resulting in only one win.  And the fastball reached 96 a few times last night, which has been rare this season.

Good to see Kenny Rogers get a decent outing last night, and adding his 4th win of the year.  Let's keep it going.

Well, the Tiggers just completed a three-game sweep this afternoon with a 9-2 win.  They scored 30 runs in three games, and Bondo looked good in the finale.

Seattle sucks, but good to see our boyz beat a team they should beat.  Let's hope the momentum carries over against a much better Twins team.

Brandon Inge hits a 3-run dinger in today's game.  Detroit is getting it done.  Sweep of Seattle is sweet.

This team is way too stacked offensively not to have more series like this, foget about the opponent. Grilli can moan all he wants, I don't believe a Leyland-led clubhouse is the problem-they have just played horribly.  One starter with an ERA under 6? One everyday player batting over .300? They should be 14 games under with those numbers! Starters need to strut their stuff a bit, like a 8 out of 10 games run with quality starts. They are certainly capable. The bats will likely continue to come, but they have been put under a lot of pressure by terrible pitching, behind all the time. Let's see a run here.
