Carmelo is the bond between the great offensive play of AI and the rest of the team. Camby etc can only put up good defensive numbers with Anthony on the team to put up a double-double alongside them. Imagine if he wasn't there, Camby would get overwhelmed and the Nuggets would be even worse defensively than they currently are (if that is possible). The Nuggets need to learn defense, not trade away their best player. His value is probably at its lowest it has been since he got drafted because his numbers have fallen slightly due to AI's presence (not a criticism, it's just bound to happen with two dominant scorers)

And who would they trade for?? The suggestion seems to be that if the Nets got the #3 pick then the Nuggets would be willing to trade for that (plus other stuff but with that pick being the main component) - who would they get?? Brook Lopez?? He may end up being a 20 - 10 guy some day but why trade somebody who is young and already putting up those numbers??

I believe that if the Nuggets got a solid defensive gameplan (not shutdown like the Celtics or Pistons but one that won't give up 120pts regularly - something like the Lakers), then they have the talent to compete with the Hornets, Lakers and Spurs. trading away the vital cog in their machine and the player who has got them this far won't aid that cause.

How about Richard Jefferson and the high lottery pick?  Denver needs to do something to get themselves going.  They have so much great talent but seem to refuse to play defense.  Change of scenery is always a good place to start.

Cap-wise, Jefferson or Vince would have to go to Denver in a Melo trade.  Or the Nets would have to trade the whole rest of their team (which neither team wants to do).  If I were Iverson, I would not be okay with any Melo trade.  How are the Nuggets possibly better with Jefferson and the #3 pick than with Melo?

They cant take MELO!!! I will never forgive my nugs for such an idiotic trade. They should be trying to trade AI or K-mart.

You guys are funny, first of all jefferson and carter are all-star type players and either can take over a game at any point.. I am a Nets fan and I don't like Michael Beasley and thinks he'll just be an average NBA player are a bust so if we get the 1st pick we should trade Beasley , Armstrong and  Diop  for Carmelo. I've never been a fan of Melo but I got to admit that he is a balla and clearly better than Vince Carter so that could work... what do you guys think?

Carmelo is a good individual player and that is it.  He alone can do whatever he wants on the offensive end (defense is optional) as long as he doesn't think he can shoot jumpers all game.  The only problem is he doesn't make players around him better.

All the teams left in the playoffs have a good team effort in place and that is something the Nuggets seriously lack.  Carmelo is a loner on and off the court and has been a black eye for the franchise.  That attitude only rubs off on the rest of the team.  Good riddance.

Maybe you're familiar with this thing called the salary cap, KB?  There is no Melo to NJ trade, unless it involves Carter or Jefferson.  I guess, since Darrell Armstrong is a free agent, they could do a sign-and-trade where Armstrong agrees to a salary of about $14 million for one year to even out the salaries.  Think Denver would pay Armstrong $14 million for the right to trade Melo for Beasley or Rose?  I sure don't, though they might have when Kiki was in charge.

I'd take Beasley and a future Nets first pick (it'll be a lottery one for the forseeable future) for Carmelo - but the facts remain that the Nets have a less than 8% of getting in the top two (where Beasley will undoubtedly go). The Nets would be fools to turn him down if they got the #1 (or #2 pick and Rose gets taken first) - in all likelihood they will however be picking at 10.

The Nets are weakening their own bargaining position by trying to trade for Melo at this point - If they get him, they will get less for Vince Carter because teams will recognise that the Nets want rid of him. Thus, they should trade him to either move up in the lottery (ie into the first two). Or even if they could potentia
