"Inside Carolina has learned that Justin Watts, a 6-5, 200-pound wing from Durham (NC) Jordan, has decided to play for the Tar Heels.  The Senior's Letter of Intent has already been signed."    This could be Coach Williams response to our lack of guards on the roster.  Or,  to put it more bluntly to our NBA happy guards, that Carolina Basketball can survive without their services... if needed. GO CAROLINA  -  GO TO HELL dook

This looks like a great add to the Tar Heel family.  He waited all this time for UNC to offer, and looks like he really wants to play for the Heels.  Is really athletic and shows some tenacity that we really needed last year.  Kind of reminds me of Terry a few years back.

Heres a kind of highlight video of him:

Sounds like they are trying to fill Ellington's spot. The mock drafts I have seen have him going before Lawson. I have no idea why the NBA would want Ellington, he is too streaky and doesn't play good D.

Thanks for the info, UNCle.  I don't know much about Watts.  Scouthoops.com had him listed as a 3-star SG with good athleticism, poise, and versatility.  I also read an interesting story that brought up the point that last time Carolina got a late commitment from a Tobacco Road prospect it was David Noel.  If Watts is anywhere close to Noel as far as athelticism and drive, he will be a nice late signee for Roy to round out the Class of 2008.  Obviously, the departure of Stepheson and his scholarship made this move a lot easier to make (in addition to the prospect of losing some guys to the NBA).

GO HEELS!

Just saw this elsewhere, and think it's excellent news.  UNC might need more outside scoring threats as our 3 main shooters are currently testing the draft.

Definitely good to hear about him.  With him, Davis, Drew, and hopefully a lot more contribution from Graves, UNC guard play should be OK...especially considering we know the low post will get hounded all next year.

just wanted to say i think it is an indication someones leaving, and the one im guessing right now is lawson,  welcome justin, but im really doubting its ellington at this point, lawson has the edge to denver and i just don't believe ellington has the same, and the one draft poll i've seen has ellington in the secound, and that was nbadraft.net, and i don't even recognize nbcsports not going to happen, the rest have lawson in ellington out so im just saying, right now that one would be lawson, and good luck danny but i think your shining year is next year after your senior year

Matt, Thanks for the "yourtube" link.  Spizz, you've listed some very strong talent points for Watts.  In watching the video it looks like this young man has a  "nack" for defense too.  His jump shot looks a little like Danny Green's and he has many offensive shots around the rim which gives him that versalitily Spizz.

I've been watching the Carolina - Virginia ACC Tourney game which our Tar Heels lost in 10 or 13 innings..  I'm not really sure.  All I know is it's 1:25 am and the Heels let Virginia keep coming back in that game over and over.  We had twice as many hits and left way too many men on base... out final out came with the bases loaded.

Shucks.. it's late, I'm tired, the Heels lost and I've already forgotten the final score, But another day, and the Tar Heels will come back and take it all.

Justin Watts could be a real sleeper for the "guard short" Tar Heels.  Now we've got 4 excellent freshmen for our next season.

GO CAROLINA

.

This is from scout.com:

Justin Watts

Pos:  SG, Pos Rank:NR, Pos Rating:***

Strenghts:  Athleticsm, Poise, Versatility

Areas for Improvement:  Ballhandling, Perimeter Shot

Good looking prospect. Can be a versatile wing player who has great presence on the court. Can be a secondary ballhandler who plays above the rim. Excellent student. Shot looks good and that's an area that can always be re-inforced.

Glad he's coming to NC...but kid's resume looks a lot like Marcus Ginyard.

Eshelmon- You're right. The kid 's bio paints him as a Ginyard type. What I am hoping is that he turns into a Jackie Manuel type shut down defender with an OK offensive presence. He could take out the opposition's best player. Don't know if this is his strong suit but we will need one of these for the next several years.
