Welcome back to the thread. The Atlanta Braves (24-21) continue their four game series with the New York Mets (22-21) today from Turner Field in Atlanta, GA. The Braves swept a day-night doubleheader with the Mets yesterday behind the fantastic starting pitching of Tom Glavine and Jorge Campillo. Today's game will feature two young guns in Mike Pelfrey and Jair Jurrjens.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Mike Pelfrey - NYM - 2-4, 4.17 ERA, 18 K, 18 BB
Jair Jurrjens - ATL - 4-3, 2.82 ERA, 44 K, 20 BB
Pelfrey is in the middle of a 4-game losing streak, although he has pitched will in his last two starts. In Pelfrey's last two starts, he has gone a combined 13.2 innings while only allowing 3 earned runs against the Cincinnati and Washington.
Jurrjens has been one of the bright spots this season in the Atlanta rotation. In 9 starts this season, 8 of them have been quality starts, meaning Jurrjens has gone at least 5 innings without giving up more than 3 earned runs.
INJURY REPORT
Ryan Church is listed as Questionable after sustaining a concussion in yesterday's game colliding with Yunel Escobar. It is unknown if he will go to the DL.
Escobar also suffered a knee injury in that same collision. He is also listed as questionable, but shouldn't spend any time on the DL.
Okay guys. Post your thoughts, observations, play-by-play, rants and whatever. I probably won't be posting as much tonight because of my night class, but I'll be keeping a close eye on the score and will be around for the later innings.
LET'S GO BRAVES!!!
