You know Rayyan I thought the same thing; that the 2-3-2 format somehow favored the away team or atleast took away from some of the advantage of home court because you could concievably lose the first two, but then win three straight at your place and force the team with the better record to have to win two in a row. Then I found out that since they started this finals format (I believe around 1980) the team with 3 straight home games has only won all three twice in almost 30 years.
What I heard, and this does seem reasonable, was that this format was instituted to "even" the home court advantage I guess is the best way to put it because, for example, even though the Celtics were the number1 overall record in the league the Lakers also finished in first in the west so they don't deserve to be at as much of a disadvantage as say the Pistons who finished second to the Celtics in the same conference.
I can see the reasoning, but I still don't like it. I think the team that worked hard enough in the regular season to have a better seeding than the team they play in the finals they should get the full effective of home court advantage.
