Listen, this is pretty simple stuff. Quit talking about who the coach is, what type of coach they need, should they drop sundin, or tucker, or should they sign whoever, until the board of governors hires a REAL GENERAL MANAGER AND BUTTS OUT AND LETS HIM MAKE ALL DECISIONS, THE TORONTO Maple Leafs WILL NEVER WIN.

Fletcher is nothing but a puppet....  ron wilson is a good coach from a hard working family that is even more of a puppet then fletcher...

Until toronto is willing to let go and allow a gm to be a gm, this team will flat out suck for a long long time...

itsjustme just doen't get it.

Sorry bud, but if at any point you were connected to the Toronto fan base, the GM is nearly the only thing talked about, along with the ineptness of management.  So if we all share the same sentiments as yourself and we just don't get it.... then.... what does that say?  ... And why is Ron Wilson's family a puppet?

I get it, your upset that when the Leafs are in town vs your hometeam that we get a better showing than the homeside, but take your shots at a fan base that actually doesn't get it, i.e. where they don't know what offside means, (hint, look to the south, the far south).

lmao  .. ok , where do I start.  First of all, I"m a redwings fan and NO, you don't get more fans at our home games, not even with windsor so close......   your lucky to 1,000 fans out of 20,000 that show up...

by "leaf fans don't get it"  .. this is what I mean,,   you know nothing.   What i'm saying is as long as you have the same board telling gms what to do and running the team like they do, you'll never win,, EVER

what i'm saying is quit wasting time talking about how they can get better.. the leafs won't win if the team isn't sold.. and that's highly unlikely because of the one thing you were right on..

IN MOST cities, the leafs DO draw well... they sell out every game and sell more merchandise than anybody does.. thus the profits are massive ,,,  mlse is way too big and makes a ton of money,, they wouldn't sell unless somebody overpays in a way never seen

what does this all mean? the leafs will remain losers for another 10 years.

I would agree with you that they will never win if the MLSE board were the people who were put on the ice every other night... And I do agree with you that they are one of the most disfunctional management (if you can call them that... dismanagement?) groups in the league.  But, history has shown that years of awful play goes rewarded, I believe your Red Wings may have just beaten one such team in the final.  Luckily, the salary cap has made it difficult to play for right now every year and the Leafs seem to have finally accepted that, Sundin leaving is a pretty big sign that they are going to take a serious step back this year.  The media will eat MLSE apart if the new GM next year (assuming it isn't Cliff again....) isn't thier promised big name, omnipresent, omnipotent, and autonomous GM.  Look back at your own team, the biggest reason that your team has not gone through a recession is luck.  Many may say tht Detroits drafting has been the greatest show on earth...  But if they knew that Hank or Dat-sick or Frazen would be world beaters would they really have allowed teams to have 209, 170, an 96 chances to pick them respectively?  no.  And it wasn't all luck, a very good development team helps greatly, but the presiding factor was luck.

Is it not the best case scenario to have a GM that will not be returning disassemble a team?  Others would be fighting for their job to make the playoffs.  The new GM next year will have a clean slate to work with and hopefully with a couple of decent prospects to build around.

Is there a little luck? Sure there is, I'd be a fool to say otherwise. But there is far more skill involved then you imply with your childish spelling of their names .  ( hint. If you would like to even appear impartial, spell names right) .

When a chief scout knows in his mind that he's one of the only people he speaks to that's impressed with a player, he'll wait and wait and draft them whenever he wants to knowing that others won't pick them up at all..... so that's where the skill is....

You can't get THAT "lucky" ..   did you know detroit has ONE first round pick on this team?   Think about it.....

As for "childish" misspelling of names showing my bias, far from it, the word "sick" is synonomous with incredible, Hank is what Zetterberg goes by, and Franzen being Frazen is clearly a typo.  FYI, I had the Wings in 6 over Pitt in the finals with Zetterberg as MVP...  Are you amazed I didn't choose Toronto even though they didn't make the playoffs?

As for your defending their drafting of their best players so late, I don't buy it.  I do buy that they have the best development team in the league which is of course put in place by their management who have done a terrific job.  At no point am I bashing the Wings (it would be hard to do anyway).  I am just pointing out that in the crapshoot that is the draft, they hit 7s with rediculous long shots.

And I still don't get what the Leafs fans don't get...  Well now I do... It is that they don't get what you are getting at...  you get that?  We know that management is horribly dysfunctional and that clearly doesn't help the team...  Heard of any of the calls for Peddie's head?

...  Looked into the drafts.... Too bad with Fischer... Kronwall was a first... going back to 1997, those are the only two picks in the first that they had until 2005.  Kindl and Smith chosen since.
