K all you closet cycling fans. The Tour starts this weekend.

The two US teams have new sponsors (the former Slipstream Chipotle team is now Team Garmin/Chipotle and the former Team High Road [and before that, T-Mobile] is now Team Columbia. New sponsors is a good thing for pro cycling.

Floyd Landis is almost officially out of options (which is probably another good thing for pro cycling, imo), and Astana has been snubbed by the ASO, but the Tour is the Tour. Should be a great three weeks to take back the sport.

Any predictions?

It could obviously be Cadel Evans' year, given that his podium-mates from last year are both locked out due to the Astana snub, but I'm going with Alejandro Valverde. I predict he'll make his break in the mountains and hold on as he's improved some in time trials.

should be interesting this year, maybe without some of the ruckus from astana and landis they can get more good publicity going for cycling?

I must say I don't know much about the cyclist in the tour or who are the favs however, I love watching it every year.  I will be out of town this weekend and can't wait to get home Sunday to watch the stages on dvr.

I am amazed at their pure strength in the mountains.  I have ridden in the mountains for pleasure and it kills me.  These guys make it look so easy.

I do hope someone other than a Frenchman wins it.

Unfortunately, I do think it is the year of the Frenchman as Voekler is poised to win it this year.  He had the yellow for more than half of the tour a few years ago and he is having a great year so far.

It will be a hard race.. with the Tourmalet, Galibier, and Alp D'Huez looming large. The race might be decided on the switch-backs.

And I hardly think the Spaniards are soft.. Contador won it.. (I know) only after Rassmussen had it won and was kicked out for no real good reason except he was avoiding a dope test. And ayone that would say Indurain was soft is a fool. Mayo, now, he might be soft... but he's actually a Basque.

Anyway, the Spaniards do always seem to have infighting.. And Oscar Pierro is every bit as good a TDF rider as Valverde is.. and with a new team I think he could be the dark horse .. And he who can win the first test in the Pyrenees will be in the cat bird seat.

I'm picking Cunego, just because Lampre has kept him on the sidelines to make him hungry and he can TT and climb.. and that's the winning combo every single time.

It's really too bad Contador isn't riding.. I'd like him pull the double.
