This kid did not earn this type of contract.  He had a good run in the play-offs, but he has yet to prove in his 4 year career that he can be a good goaltender all season.  He was horrible at the beginning of this season.  Then after having 3 months off, came out good.  I don't see how he is worth $5 million a year.  This is wasted money, and now next year when this kid flops again, the Pens are going to be out a lot of money, and without someone in net.  Don't even try saying he deserves it with a 40 win season, because out of those 40 wins, 28 of them were games with 3 or more goals given up by Fleury, so Fleury didn't do anything to win those games, the offense just picked up where Fleury couldn't.  The Pens only chance for a cup is to get a goalie that can play like an elite goalie throughout an entire season and through the playoffs.

I'll admit I'm still concerned about his play, but honestly the way he played in the playoffs especially in the Finals tells me something.  Whether or not you can look at this past season, which post injury was phenomenal for him, and say that he's turned a corner is so hard to say.  He's still young and as is well documented goalies take a while to develop, but the Pens aren't left with too many options.  With the contract that Huet secured, you'd have to think on open market he would've gotten much better.  He does have the flashes of a great goaltender and we can't let him simply go.  The years is definitely questionable but it's a product of what he would accept as well as making sure Crosby, Malkin and Fleury's contracts are staggered.  This next year will definitely be telling; so we'll see.

Considering he's gotten better each year, I think it was good that they locked him up now.  He probably would've gotten more on the open market anyway.

Fleury was an elite goalie the entire time when he came back from injury.  In the playoffs he was bested only by Osgood, but very similar to his numbers.  He learned a lot from Conklin and reached his potential when he came back.  I disagree when u say this is wasted money, but now that i said that i wouldn't be surprised if he is a flop this season

It's a little unfair to Fleury considering he is only 23.  Most young goalies are taking thier lumps in the minors.  He's been taking his lumps in the NHL since he was 18 and getting better every year.  There is a reason he was the #1 pick in that years draft.  He hasn't even reached his prime or peaked physically.  He is going to be scary!

Fleury basically kept them in a couple games early in the playoffs.... won 40 games two years ago....... and he is 23?  Not worth it?

Fleury proved to me he can play the big game, he is getting better every year, this is a bargain.  Huet got almost the same money......
